Introduction

In general the formula here is that the host sets a theme and every participant brings a wine of the theme. The host puts a few extra on the table. We taste all wines blind, only knowing our own wine. We first taste a little bit in a random order. Then we decide together in which order the wines will be tasted again and after that revealed. In this group we do not use spittoons, so the number of bottles is limited. We don’t empty the bottles, but leave the leftovers for the host to taste again the next day, or take home the bottle we brought. In fact this easy setting where we taste the wines several times over 4 – 6 hours is the ultimate way to get a good impression of a wine.

Flight 1 (6 Notes)

  • 2015 Château Palmer 96 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Very beautiful bouquet with ripe dark berries, luxurious oak, cedar and cigar box. On the palate juicy dark and red berries and graphite, beautifully mild acidity, round tannin and some smoke. The wine is still very youthful, but already fantastic. The soft tannin and concentration hold a promise. For now 95 – 96+

  • 2013 Vieux Château Certan 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

Beautiful bouquet with dark berries, some smoke and beautiful oak. On the palate juicy red and dark berry fruits and a slight touch of sweetness. Juicy acidity and slightly sticky tannin with a bite, some bitterness and bell pepper. Very good wine, but the vintage is probably the problem to make this wine great. 92 – 93 because with more time it will probably soften a bit and show more finesse.

  • 2015 Château Péby Faugères 97 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

Extremely beautiful and concentrated bouquet with creamy and round dark berry fruits, On the palate concentrated and ripe dark berries, oak, cedar, round and beautiful acidity and tannin and an enormous length. This wine is not from this world and truly complex and delicious. It was a tasting with Bordeaux wines, but otherwise I would have said this is a great wine from Napa. 97+ for now.
