Flight 1 - Whites (2 Notes)

  • 2017 Château Latour-Martillac Blanc

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Some straw and pineapple cube boiled sweets on the nose. Some under ripe Galia melon too. Palate very well balanced with some subtle grassiness and a mineral backbone. Evolves quite rapidly in the glass. Improves with the food.

  • 2021 Riverby Estate OVB Old Vines White Blend

    New Zealand, South Island, Marlborough

Apple and quince nose, although had been double decanted air brings this to life and it's as lovely at the end of the evening as after that first glass. Palate has great texture and balance, nice acidity. One for the long haul too.

Flight 2 - Burgs (2 Notes)

  • 2021 Francois Gay Aloxe-Corton

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Aloxe-Corton

Youthful, crunchily fruited. With a smattering of blueberries lifting the red fruits. A little twist of black pepper grinds. The first 2021 from this house I've tried and it shows great promise. Yum

  • 2014 Francois Gay Aloxe-Corton

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Aloxe-Corton

Meatier than the 2021 it's served with. Some structure and power as it reaches its 10th birthday but in a velvet glove. Definitely (as normal) punching above its weight. Look forward to the rest of the case.

Flight 3 - Musar (2 Notes)

  • 2004 Chateau Musar

    Lebanon, Bekaa Valley

Double decanted 4 hours before broaching. Lovely clean nose with bright red fruits, some Moroccan bazaar spice and some hints of pickled chestnut. Palate rich and long with more of the same and a little grated chocolate.

  • 2005 Chateau Musar Flawed

    Lebanon, Bekaa Valley

Sadly low level but persistent TCA. Underneath lurks a nice wine.
