Flight 1 (5 Notes)

  • NV Antonio de la Riva "La Riva" Manzanilla Fina Miraflores Baja 93 Points

Spain, Andalucía, Manzanilla de Sanlúcar de Barrameda

Bottled April 2022. Complex and intense, bone-dry but elegant, brine and green olives but also a good charge of ripe orchard fruit (apple, pear) and white flowers, really incisive acidity but no bitters, silky texture, palpable chalk, great energy and drive on the long finish with lovely fruit.

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

A blend of 80% Pinot Noir and 20% Merlot and Cabernet- Sauvignon, 11% ABV. Lovely nose, red berries and a hint of spice, leafiness, minerally freshness; dry but juicy palate, crisp and fresh, black cherries; hint of liquorice on the finish.

  • 2020 Lamy-Caillat Bourgogne Blanc 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc

From Les Grandes Corvées (although not indicated on the label), a plot in the commune of Chassagne-Montrachet but outside the AOP, adjacent to the village climat La Corvée, vines planted in 1990, two years in wood, bottled by hand without fining, 13% ABV. Expressive nose, salted lemon, mirabelle, white flowers, yeasty complexity, gentle wood, fudge, deep and commanding; good volume on the palate, hint of cream, firm and structured, clear and concentrated, oval shape, great energy, silky texture; long and layered finish. With many producers this would be Premier Cru level.

  • 2021 William Kelley Moulin-à-Vent 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Beaujolais, Moulin-à-Vent

Small production, 592 bottles filled. From 120+ year old vines in Champ de Coeur, whole cluster, foot-trodden, aged in old Meursault barrels. Pure and precise. Firmly structured. Floral nose. Spices. Minerality. Noticeable stems. The wood needs more time to integrate. Built to last. Made for the long haul. Hint of milk chocolate. Tart red cherries, grippy skin tannins, cherry bonbons. Perfect weight and balance. Crisp and very energetic. Broad range of fruit from peach to prunes. Far too young to pronounce judgement, trying to attach a realistic score.
