Flight 1 (9 Notes)

  • 2022 Weiser-Künstler Enkircher Steffensberg Riesling trocken 88 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

The nose is fresh and fragrant with tones of white peaches, limes, saline, white fruits, crushed rocks, green apples, lemon peels, and some pear notes. This has a lovely freshness that is irresistible while showing off good depth for the level. The Light bodied feel is deft and shows off the freshness of the nose along with tart, high acidity that has a real mouthwatering effect. This is a lovely and fresh Trocken that shows off good balance and deftness across the nose and palate.

  • 2002 Willi Schaefer Graacher Domprobst Riesling Spätlese 92 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

The color shows off a lovely gold color while the nose is nuanced and mature with tones of apples, caramel, honey, pears, apricots, honeydew melon, nectarines, yellow florals, and some meyer lemons. There is a real layering to the tones that shows off the maturity of the wine. The Lighter bodied feel is silky and textured with integrated and tart, high acidity. This is sailing along and shows off a lovely maturity that leans into a level of refinement.

  • 2022 Stein Palmberg Riesling Kabinett trocken Alte Reben 91 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

The nose is electric and filled with delicious tension as it permeates in the glass with tones of pears, green apples, saline, crushed rocks, fresh herbs, white fruits, white flowers, and some melon notes. There is good depth with a real verve to the tones that keeps bringing my nose back to the glass. The Lighter bodied feel has some weight for a Kabinett while still showing off a deftness along with tart, high acidity that also shows off some of the tension of the nose. This is a lot of fun and a real tasty Kabinett. This certainly can age, but it would sure be a shame to not enjoy what it brings right now.

  • 2022 Hofgut Falkenstein Krettnacher Altenberg Riesling Kabinett trocken "Auf dem Hölzchen" #21 91 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

The nose is so enticing and fresh as it fills the glass with pears, nectarines, red apples, apple blossoms, elderflower, peaches, saline, lemon oil, crushed rocks, and a bit of almond paste. There is good depth and seamlessness already on the nose that shows off a good bit of intrigue. The Lighter bodied feel shows off a lot of freshness and balance with racy and extremely tart, high acidity. This is close to being painfully young. It is still quite drinkable, but it does feel like a few years will provide a real benefit.

  • 2022 Weingut Hermann Ludes Thörnicher Ritsch Riesling Kabinett feinherb Gackes oben 91 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

There is more than a whiff of reduction on this right away. It is a little distracting, but it does pull back with some swirling and opens up into balanced tones of pears, apples, crushed rocks, candied lemons, jasmine, green tea, peaches, saline, and some white flowers. The Light bodied feel is fresh and balanced while the acidity is just ripping and high. This definitely needs a few years to come together. The reduction is a bit heavy for me at the moment and the acidity has some real sting. Once those pull back, this can be a real banger.

  • 2022 Peter Lauer Schönfels Riesling Kabinett No 111 91 Points

    Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer

The nose has a flinty reduction that sits on top of a lovely and fragrant citrus base of lemon oil, pears, meyer lemons, peaches, green apples, flint, some embers, and white flowers. This has a good bit of nuance but with a slightly robust side. The Light bodied feel is balanced and fresh with racy, high acidity that brings some angles and sharpness right now. This is much more ready to drink on the feel than the Ludes was. But, it still could use a few years to round down some of the angles.

  • 2022 Julian Haart Riesling Rote Erden 92 Points

    Germany, Rheinhessen

There is a noticeable and fresh hit of tropical citrus right away that leans into fresh tones of green apples, banana leaf, white flowers, lemon zest, flinty notes, white peaches, crushed rocks, and saline. There is good depth with a real open-knit style that keeps bringing you back to the glass. The Medium bodied feel is light on its feet while the tart, high acidity has some good cut. This is really fun and in a bit of a rambunctious phase right now. I love the immediacy of it right now as it is very much like a big puppy dog. But, a few years can let this calm down just a bit and show off even more of an expressiveness than it already does.

  • 2022 Emrich-Schönleber Halenberg Riesling Großes Gewächs 93 Points

    Germany, Nahe

The nose is a bit coiled up, but even with it taking a bit to get everything, it shows of fresh and deep tones of limes, white peaches, lemon peels, white fruits, crushed rocks, fresh herbs, pears, acacia flowers, and some saline. The Medium bodied feel is balanced and silky with racy, high acidity. This clearly needs a few years. There is a whole lot to like right now, but it clearly isn't showing everything that it can show.

  • 2021 Weingut Keller Oberer Hubacker Riesling Monopol 94 Points

    Germany, Rheinhessen

The nose is on the tighter side, but there is still so much depth and class behind the tones of apples, pears, jasmine, elderflowers, crushed rocks, meyer lemons, saline, and some banana leaf notes. The Medium bodied feel is vibrant and deep with sneaky, yet mouthwatering, high acidity. The nose shows off some tightness, but the feel is just gorgeous. This is all class on the feel and shows off the quality level I would expect from Keller. I would love to come across this in another 5+ years and see how its developed.
