Introduction

Just a simple lunch with friends

Flight 1 (1 Note)

  • NV Marie Le Brun Champagne Premier Cru Reserve 88 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

I had the opportunity to taste this champagne twice, the first bottle was opened on christmas eve of 2023 and was completely oxidized which is weird seeing as this champagne was relatively young.

Indeed, I am only commenting the second tasting, drunk with friends before a lunch.

A nice champagne, I believe its a blanc de blancs, some yeasty flavours, but not a lot of finesse nor complexity.

A good experience when the bottle is good, a nice introductory note.

Flight 2 (2 Notes)

  • 2022 Claudie Jobard Rully Montagne La Folie 91 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Rully

    Drunk blind.

My first thought for this wine was a Côte de Beaune white, may be even a Premier Cru.

Nice rich palate, pear and citrus aroma, a great finesse, no sense of alcohol, a really well integrated wine.

It would certainly benefit from 3-5 years of cellaring, or even more if you like mature white burgundies.

A great cheap burgundy white, drunk just a touch too young!

  • 2018 Château Milens 93 Points

France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

Drunk at lunch with some friends.

I am lucky enough to have tasted a lot of Milens different vintages, from 1999 to 2019, and I believe this is the best one so far.

The tannins are really soft and integrated, a nice medium to full body, dark fruit aromas. In a sens it reminds me the integration of the 2011 vintage but with a lot more body and complexity. A nice ripe fruit picked at the right time.

The bottle was opened and shouldered a few hours prior to degustation.

It really stood off compared to all the other wines present. I am eager to see how it will age !

Flight 3 (1 Note)

  • NV Grande Chartreuse Chartreuse V.E.P. Verte 96 Points

    France

Non vintage V.E.P. but it is in cellar since the early 90's.

A real humbling experience in term of bouquet and complexity.
Upon opening the bottle the smell immediately radiates in the room.

If i had to describe it to someone who only had classic chartreuse, it would be just more, more length, more complexity, more refinment, more emotion.

The length is tremendous, such a pity it is this expensive nowadays!

One of the best digestive on earth.

The Milens and the Chartreuse really stood out.
