Introduction

A scouting mission for future offline activity, this was a great find and chapeau to RZ for discovering it. Two courses for £19.95, corkage £7.50 per bottle.

Flight 1 - Whitebait (2 Notes)

  • 2018 Domaine Fabien Coche Meursault 1er Cru Gouttes d'Or 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Very classy wine. Served with a Jadot Meursault Genevrières of the same vintage. This starts with a charming lemony character, wet stone minerality and cotton wool. The whitebait accompaniment really adds a dimension. With some air a little thyme and chicken roasting juices emerge. Subtle but excellent.

  • 2018 Louis Jadot Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières Domaine Louis Jadot 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

Another cracking Meursault. Served with a Fabien Coche 1er Cru Gouttes d'Or of the same vintage. On pouring hints of cordite reduction but absolutely in a good way. Texturally delightful. The oak here a little more noticeable on the mid-palate. Some Rose's Lime Cordial and later with a lot of air the faintest hint of mango oil. Great breadth. Will be good to revisit this pair on their 10th birthdays if we can keep our hands off! Also lifted a couple of notches by the whitebait starter that arrived as we we supping.

Flight 2 - Haddock, Chips and Mushy Peas (2 Notes)

  • 2014 Le Grappin Beaune 1er Cru Grèves Blanc 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Beaune 1er Cru

Served with a PYCM St Aubin La Pucelle of the same vintage. Ever so slightly butterier than either of the Meursaults or the PYCM. Some grapefruit pith and hints of minty peas. With air something herbal here too. Thyme and chicken roasting juices? Lovely stuff and great foil for the haddock and chips its served with.

  • 2014 Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey Saint-Aubin La Pucelle Blanc 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Saint-Aubin

The palest of the wines we're enjoying this evening. Very fresh with intense lime oil, hints of tutti fruiti Mouth pucking acidity and such line. Could be a 2021. With lots of air hints of lemon curd too. Hard to describe but joyous. Haddock and chips alongside a very good match.

Closing

Great food and four excellent white Burgs. A shame one of our number had a work intervention on the day and couldn't join us.
