What a treat! A trade tasting to try Timo's new releases...well, i say that but I think his son makes them now...
I do like his Sangio and Syrah, such elegant wines...I do have concerns for their longevity though...
2022 Mayer Remstal Riesling Dr. Mayer Kabinett trocken
Germany, Württemberg
lime, apple, a little almost unripe peach, tiny touch of mineral and herbaceousness and sulphur. Juicy medium plus intensity acidity is offset by a touch of residual sugar, citrus and apple, slightly texture, sulphur. Needs time to come together for me.

2023 Mayer Chardonnay
Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Sulphur, lemon, a little cream, touch of almost candy floss, kumquat and, oddly, ranch dressing. Tangy with medium plus intensity acidity, mid palate textured grip is charming, quite front to back of the palate, fruit a little muted. Okay

2023 Mayer Gamay Yarra Valley
Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Smoky whole bunch, pretty, sweet smelling cherry with bright fruit lozenge notes and a touch of meaty spice and that strange ranch dressing note. Sour, savoury, fruit more muted, textured burr, meh.

2022 Mayer Pinot Noir Dr. Mayer Remstal
Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Ashy whole bunch is in balance with dark berries; blackberry, sweet spice, non-intrusive alcohol prickle. Rich, quite dense, acid is a little sour but not off-puttingly so, texture is super persistent and silky, all travel long. Yum

2023 Mayer Nebbiolo
Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
A tiny smoky note attends dried flowers, a little sweet spice, red and black cherry and plum and a touch of meaty wild ferment. Quite sour and unpleasant on the palate, fruit tea, raspy coarse tannins prove tight. Nose offers so much more than the mouth.

2023 Mayer Cabernet
Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley
Medium minus intensity aromas show cream(?), contrasting jammy red hued fruit and pencil shavings, touch of pyrazine. Medium plus intensity acidity is a little sharp, red hued fruits, plenty of tannins; skin and oak derived, are drying and coarse and more present than those in the nebbiolo. Young and out of whack. Flavour profile not for me.

2023 Mayer Sangiovese

Medium minus intensity aromas of fruit tea, cherry, sweet spice, touch of tomato leaf, that ranch dressing thing again. Medium plus intensity acidity, concentrated cherry, savoury, slightly spiced, drying chewy tannins persist long. Slight non-intrusive alcohol warmth on the finish. Good.
