Introduction

Theme - wines that should go with Thai food!

Flight 1 - Austria (2 Notes)

Squid, prawns, gyoza, Yum Yum Drum

Flight 2 - Australia (1 Note)

Aubergine and tofu salad

  • 2019 Grosset Riesling Springvale Clare Valley 91 Points

Australia, South Australia, Mount Lofty Ranges, Clare Valley

These Aussie Rieslings aren't quite my style, but can't deny this is a good wine, and lovely with the food. Lime and kerosene on the nose, and more cordial-esque lime on the lipsmacking palate. Really refreshing, with a slight mealy edge that presumably reflects the fact this is now five years old.

Flight 3 - Germany (2 Notes)

Kra Pao pork

Flight 4 - Alsace Gewurz (2 Notes)

  • 2017 Domaine Barmes-Buecher Gewurztraminer 4 90 Points

    France, Alsace

Rather sweet, and has varietal typicity, with its exotic fruit and note of honey linctus. Everything kept sufficiently in check to make it a good table wine, too, although (as with a number of the other wines tonight) I found the acidity a little brisk.

  • 2019 Domaine Barmes-Buecher Gewurztraminer Steingrübler 92 Points

    France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru

Rather lean, but undoubtedly tasty. Tangy and not especially exotic, making it drinkable in a way one doesn't necessarily expect of Gewurz. Classy wine, popular with everyone around the table.

Flight 5 - Alsace Pinot Gris (1 Note)

Closing

Hmmm - not my favourite selection of wines, many being too brisk and acidic for my taste, but they mostly went well with the food. And the food was delicious!
