Tuesday Bordeaux

David Wolf from Petrus was in town for a moment, and after an introduction through some mutual acquaintance we were able to arrange a small dinner.

As I finished cooking and everyone arrived, this was a stunning, young sipper!

• 2021 Domaine Chavy-Chouet Meursault 1er Cru Les Charmes 94 Points

  France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru

  Young. Electric. Salty. Mmm, the citrus, lemon oil, hint of vanilla, just stunningly pure and concentrated. This is silly good.

And then some Bordeaux.

• 1986 Château Trotanoy

  France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Pomerol

  Stunner. So traditional. Lean, dark, brooding. Very pure. Mineral. Lovely. Just delicious and satisfying with a steak.

• 1985 Château Haut-Brion

  France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

  Haunting. Smoky, chicory, lovely cherry, slightly tense and structured still but in a regal, silky way. So pretty, so poised.

• 1990 Château Beausejour (Duffau Lagarrosse)

  France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

  Insane. Dense. Powerful, brooding. The more this ages the more the structure starts to appear. A nice cocoa, bitter element.
