Introduction

Lunas is a charming little Portuguese restaurant in Petersham so decided to trot along with Phil and Tim and half a dozen (ish) Portuguese wines

Flight 1 (8 Notes)

  • 2021 Aveleda Alvarinho Solos de Granito

    Portugal, Minho, Vinho Regional Minho

Super aromatic alvarihno, lovely floral top notes, quite mineral behind this. Juicy medium plus intensity acidity, soft mid palate stony burr, pretty stone notes with orange blossom, finishes with that stone licking burr. Nice.

  • 2022 Quinta Vale D. Maria Douro Superior Branco

    Portugal, Douro

Very neutral nose; a little herbaceous and citrus notes, touch of salinity. That citrus note translates to the palate offering lemon and orange, a little lime pith, slight herbaceous notes, textured burr, touch of salinity on the finish. Okay.

  • 2021 José Maria da Fonseca Dão Casa Portuguesa

    Portugal, Beiras, Dão

red berry fruit; raspberry, strawberry, are all quite fruit lozenge (partial carbonic?), a metallic note. A little savoury texture, juicy, jubey berry fruit again. Simple, balanced, okay.

  • 2021 José Maria da Fonseca Periquita Reserva

Portugal, Península de Setúbal, Vinho Regional Península de Setúbal

slightly dusty notes, touch of fresh tobacco, red and blackberry with a smidge of mulberry, sweet spice and a tiny savoury underpin. Pretty and complex nose. Juicy, fleshy, fresh, savoury fruits, super soft tannins are a gentle tug on the mid palate. Fresh, easy and rather nice.

  • 2010 Vinhos Sogrape Dão Callabriga

    Portugal, Beiras, Dão

crumbly split cork so into a decanter we go. A little earth, leather, sweet spice, red over blackberry still smells fresh. Juicy, savoury with a fruit sweet core. Slightly baked notes to that fruit, silky tannins. Hmm.

  • 2005 Tardieu-Laurent Châteauneuf-du-Pape Vieilles Vignes

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

red hued fruits are quite baked, liquorice, alcohol lends a prickly pepper note, smells dense. And equally thick and dense on the palate, spicy, a little alcoholically warm, woody tannins are chewy, quite cumbersome. Not for me.

  • 2011 Croft Porto Vintage

    Portugal, Douro, Porto

from half bottle. plums and black fruits, dense, alcohol prickle, still very primary despite 13 years. Powerful and dense on the palate, integrated oak. Woof.
