Enjoyed on a Sunday afternoon in the park - the bottle bad been open since Friday (albeit well stoppered). Fizz a bit diminished but still there. Some great acid and a certain zip to it.
On to the restaurant now. Second time tasting a Pol B de B, the last being a 15 at a TWS event at the Churchill War Rooms. Deep gold colour. On pouring, a bit of funk on the nose - parmesan stink - which blows off. Lovely acidity here and a breadth which really gives it character, with a slight lactic / creamy note at the end. Jolly decent stuff.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Pale gold colour. Immense nose. Gorgeous mouthfeel, waxy and precise, if one can have such a thing. Some discussion at the table about whether this was "oxidative" in style - to my mind, 100% yes, but others felt differently. Anyway - this is but a pup, but drinking wonderfully now, a treat.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru
..and talking of treats. Pale garnet colour. On the nose a hint of green which somewhat blows off and leaves delicate mossy churchyard aromas. On the palate - my handwritten note said "not analytical" and I think what I meant was...there's a hard to capture character that dances lightly around the tongue. There's still some nervous energy here - cherry and cherry stone. I poured myself some more from the bottom of the bottle - some of the sediment was in there and, woot, this gets even better. What a treat for a Sunday night.
When sat beside the much subtler Dujac my initial impression was just of damp campfire. Give it time though, woof, give it time. Incredible depth, that real bacon fat richness and a kind of green pepper / black pepper finish. This is truly excellent.
