Introduction

Pinot tasting in Stockholm with newfound friends. All the wines in flight 2 from my own cellar. All wines tasted blind initially.

Flight 1 - Champagne (2 Notes)

Flight 2 - Pinot (9 Notes)

  • 2018 Enderle & Moll Pinot à Trois 93 Points

    Germany, Baden

Spicy, slightly volatile nose with cherry, cola, vanilla, old paint, liquorice, some strawberry and sloan. Intense and long. Great wine!

  • 2014 Evening Land Vineyards Pinot Noir La Source Seven Springs Vineyard 90 Points

USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Eola - Amity Hills

Cola, vanilla, slighly oaky. Borderline thin on the palate but a good mix of dark and red fruit. Not much personality, generic.

The above note sounds overly harsh when I read it. This is not a bad wine, but the competition was just way too tough with wines like DRC Grands Echezeaux and Vogüé Musigny in the lineup.

  • 1993 Louis Jadot Chambertin 95 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru

31 years old, this drinks incredibly young and could easily be be mistaken for, say a 2005. Structured and darkish with just hints of development. Nose of blue and red berries, some tobacco, bay leaf, herbs and manure. On the palate also towards the darker side or the spectrum for pinot. Still a good amount of tannin and a gravely minerality. Good lenght too.

  • 2007 Faiveley Chambertin-Clos de Bèze 96 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin-Clos de Bèze Grand Cru

Brick colour. Amazing sweet red, very ripe, berries mingle with mushroom and sous bois. Silky, complex with some spice and just a light touch of tannin. Medium acidity and body. Great lenght. Such a charming wine! Probably the best bottle of this so far.

  • 2010 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Grands-Echezeaux 98 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru

Great bouquet with cherries, strawberries, fieldberries etc. Very attractive mix of red and black fruit. Also grass, herbs and an intense warm but also green spiciness, a touch of smoke or tobacco, wet asphalt. Very complex and intense. On the plate likewise intense and deep but also exquisitly elegant and fresh with impeccable balance. Amazing depth and detail. Very long with more of that warm spiciness. One of the very best wines I’ve had.

  • 2010 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 97 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru

Regal and deep, this is still a youngster and needed ample time to open up. But eventually we get that silken fruit, that loving touch, that sweet sensation that only truly great Bourgogne can offer. Sensational wine, but will be even better with another five to ten years in the cellar.

  • 2002 Simon Bize Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru Aux Vergelesses 93 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Savigny-lès-Beaune 1er Cru

At bit discreet at first, not giving much. Opens up with time showing sweet red berries, a sort of dusty herbal grassiness. Elegant and fresh. Good lenght. Maybe the best showing yet for this wine.

  • 2007 Gros Frère et Sœur Richebourg 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru

Light and elegant red berries. Raspberries, rowanberries, bay leaf. On the palate quite thin, lacking concentration and body. Partly makes up for it with a beautiful, light, etheral fruit. Über elegant. A good wine, but a dissapointment considering the pedigree.

  • 2005 Domaine de Montille Corton-Pougets 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton Grand Cru

Attractive, ripe red berry fruit but very low key. Silky, soft, ethereal, this needs a little bit more flesh on its bones. But was up against very tough competition tonight.

Closing

What a night! So glad and relived that the Grands Echezaux lived up to expectations. First DRC from my own cellar and quite an emotional experience. Huge thanks to Nikolas & Anna for hosting this and inviting me.
