2021 Château La Caussade Bordeaux Blanc
France, Bordeaux
Gooseberry, slight asparagus, touch greener than I expected, a little sweet spice. In the mouth it's slightly tart, textured burr, muted fruit is in the green spectrum, short with a quite mineral finish. Relatively simple. Hmm.

2020 Château Huradin Graves Blanc
France, Bordeaux, Graves
Aromas of cream, butter, richer than the caussade on the nose. Ripe apple, slight passion fruit, ripe gooseberry. Tangy, fleshy, straying to the opulent, fruit slightly muted on the palate, textured grip. Hmm.

2019 Château Croix de Labrie Stella Solare Blanc
France, Bordeaux
Waxy notes, honeyed, gooseberry, passion fruit, polished oak, sweet spice, touch of almond meal. Smells rich and generous. Fleshy, again oak present offering a little caramel to accompany the fruits. Big, luxurious, a little boisterous.

2019 Château Huradin Graves

Blackcurrant, plums, a slight mineral quality, sweet spice, herbaceous notes; touch of green underpin. Savoury, chewy tannins, drying, close down the palate, black fruit plays second fiddle, Hmm, time?

2012 Château Massereau Cuvée K

Rocky minerality, fresh black fruits; currant, plums, touch of alcohol prickle, sweet spice, earthy, cedar, juicy, fleshy, fresh, powdery drying tannins, belies its age. Nice.

2015 Château Potensac La Chapelle de Potensac

Slightly funky earthy note, fresh earth over plums, sweet spice, alcohol prickle. In the mouth it's a little odd, sour fruits and alcohol warmth before massive tannins close down the palate. Note: end of bottle.

2015 Château Queyron Pindefleurs
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
Savoury plums, sweet spice; clove, nutmeg, slightly polished oak, caramel (touch oxidised), alcohol prickle, herbaceous underpin. Tannins dominate the palate, chewy and drying, ripe alcohol soaked fruits; plums especially, are in support. Nah.

2018 Château La Caussade Cadillac Côtes de Bordeaux

Wild blackcurrant on a bed of plum compote, a little vanilla, sweet spice, alcohol prickle. Ooh, it's a little sour and dilute on the palate, chalky tannins, fruit doesn't persist after the promising nose. Hmm.

2016 Château Chasse-Spleen
France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Moulis en Médoc
Pyrazine, plums under fresh/wild blackcurrant, a little cedar, earth, a little touch of forest floor. Juicy, savoury, fleshy, blackcurrant fruit drops quite quickly, tannins are coarse flour but in support, leathery notes, balanced. Nicest of the reds so far.

Plum fruit with a little blackcurrant and sweet spice in support. Clean, fresh, simple nose. In the mouth it's juicy, fleshy, slightly dilute and sour plummy fruit, a little green underpin and talc textured tannins. Hmm

2019 Château Penin Tradition

Ripe plums, sweet spice, a little vanilla, touch of alcohol prickle, red berry underpin with time. Chewy tannins are drying and have a slightly bitter quality and are a little too high for the fruit. Medium length. Hmm.

2021 Château Penin 56 Malbec

Violets, plums, smells fleshy, mineral/rocky notes, touch f sweet spice and a pinch of mulchy forest floor. Medium plus intensity acidity, red and black plums, drying tannins feel grape rather than oak tannins, silky persistent, simple. Okay.

2016 Château de Francs Les Cerisiers
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Francs Côtes de Bordeaux
A little oxidation, sweet spice, alcohol prickle over muted though dense smelling plummy fruit and baked earth, touch of yeast extract here as well; quite a forward nose. Juicy, savoury, concentrated slightly baked plummy fruit, less oxidised on the palate, but still present, tannins are woody, coarse and dominate the fruit. For me there is nowhere for this to go.

Ripe cherries over fresh blackcurrant, compote not jam, oaky spice; clove, nutmeg, savoury underpin. Juicy, fleshy, fresh, savoury dark fruits, slightly chalky tannins are very slight in the ascendancy. Okay.

2019 Château Croix de Labrie
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
Plush plums and plenty of polished oak, the latter in charge here; dominating the nose even after five years. Pretty floral notes appear with time and agitation and the oak is equally in charge on the palate, dusty drying tannins plummy fruit present rich, ripe but in support. Very polished, quite long. Time will help but this is a little on the large and oaky side for me.

2020 Château Les Carmes Haut-Brion Le C des Carmes Haut-Brion

Polished oak with fruits showing plums, blackcurrant, black berry, a little raspberry here as well as sweet spice and a touch of earthiness. In the mouth it's juicy, fleshy, black and red fruit compote initially with drying coarse flour tannins arrive shortly afterwards. Long, time to integrate but on the way, touch of non-intrusive alcohol warmth. Nice.

Red hued fruits, berry especially over plums, a little pencil shaving note, muted sweet spice. Plentiful drying chalky tannins dominate the palate; fruit very much a background features. Finishes with alcohol warmth. Nah.

Meaty, earthy, plummy fruit, very slight pyrazine, plummy fruit, a little caramel note, sweet spice. In the mouth it has very slightly sour plummy fruit, a little blackcurrant, herbaceous underpin, chalky tannins <shrugs>

2019 Château La Gaffelière Chateau Chapelle d'Alienor
France, Bordeaux, Bordeaux Supérieur
Plums, sweet spice, slight alcohol prickle, a little raspberry, cedar. Fresh fruits are juicy on the palate, drying silky tannins in support, finishes fruit sweet but with a slightly meaty note. Other than a little alcohol warmth on the finish this is rather nice.

2019 Château Bertineau St.-Vincent

Ripe plums, sweet spice, a little rocky minerality, touch of clay. Fruit is slightly hard, tannins are not yet integrated and are chewy, drying and woody…a little too much for the fruit. Time to settle. Damn.

Medium plus intensity aromas of plums & sweet spice; clove, a little cream, tiny touch of red hued fruit and pyrazine here as well . In the mouth it's an odd alcohol warmth and a little sourly fruited, tannins are dense, cherry and in charge on the finish. Meh.

2016 Château Les Hauts de Plaisance

Slightly burnt blackcurrant and plum fruit, touch of cream, plums, sweet spice, slightly jubey here as well, cedar, sandalwood. Juicy, huge and unwieldy tannins close down the palate, fruit doesn't relay show that well. Meh today but time might help

2017 Château Pontoise Cabarrus

Fresh blackcurrant, red and black plums, sweet spice; polished oak, cream. In the mouth it's slightly sour/dilute, red and black fruit, sweet spice. Tannins are chewy, drying, chalky, fruit doesn't travel. Again, I'd hope that time would help but the lack of fruit is a problem.

Red berry; raspberry, plums, sweet spice; quite fresh smelling. Juicy, fleshy, talc textured tannins are warm, drying, too much for the fruit Pity. Shows promise as an entry level wine.
