    Crystalline lemon and grapefruit zest with some bitter grapefruit peel, spicy and full of verve with faint hints of honey.

  • 1995 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Musigny Cuvée Vieilles Vignes 96 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Musigny Grand Cru

    Fragrant rose petals, redcurrants and red cherries, pure and linear with lots of finesse. Later fans out with chocolate and spices. Lush with still quite firm structure, yet such effortless finish of perfumed cherries. Old Vogue needs time to fully blossom. 96+

    Explosively floral with lilac and candied rose petals. Sweet raspberry, roasted spices, freshly chopped herbs, cola and exotic spices. Lively and polished with unbelievably candied fruit and persistent fragrance. 96+

    Very ripe plums and prunes with roasted cedar, smoky liquorice, orange peel. Opulent, very rich texture with velvety tannins. fleshy yet lacks structure for completeness.

    More tertiary with liquorice, underbrush, and dark chocolate with bright acidity, redcurrants coulis. Tasting along side with '86 Lafleur, '85 Eglise Clinet felt more elegant, yet remaining focused and juicy. 93+

    Following up the Pomerol duo, Solaia instantly brought more Tuscan sunshine and power to the sensory experience. Rosemary and roasted herbs with lush dark plums and cassis, fleshy and bold with some liquorice and mocha. Very rich and persistent. 93+

    Overly animal and leathery with savauge plums and boysenberry, sous bois, liquorice and bitter herbs. Medium bodied and solemn with smoke, cedar and pencil shavings. Lacks verve and fruitiness.

  • 2000 Château Mouton Rothschild 94 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    The iconic golden ram label is truly worthy of the name. Gamey and animal with sauvage plums, liquorice and saddle leather with robust unyielding structure. Very savoury and earthy with cedar woodsmoke and tobacco. Restrained and complex with layers of generous fruit.

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

    (from magnum) Horse leather, tobacco, liquorice, herbs/mint with gamey bramble fruit, some prunes, light and suave with supple texture. Quite good in the context of the vintage.

  • 2009 Château Cheval Blanc 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru

    Creamy blackberry, toast and vanilla with heightened bright acidity, more bramble. Rich and opulent texture with gamey-tinged finish. Tannins still very tight-knit and grainy with lots of oak dominant. 2hrs later turns even more sublime with seamless lushness from Merlot. 95+

  • 1996 Château Calon-Ségur 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Estèphe

    Rich plums and dark cassis with gamey and musky nose of tobacco, leather and hints of iron. Very smooth tannins, vibrant acidity with hints of capsicum and nutmeg. A bit too musky, yet later dissipates into rich dark fruit.

    Relatively reticent with little fruit emerge from the scorched earth, liquorice and wild game. Later more sweet plums and dark cherries with grainy tannins, solemn structure and a bit drying tannins. 2hrs later turns to more bramble fruit and fine spice with hints of iron. Underperforming.
