Grenache/syrah blend, 14%, classic pale colour, "gastronomic" and "not a pool wine" said our host at the chateau. Very limited on the nose. Textured rather than sweet on the body, redcurrant curl on the finish, borderline sharp. Quite long. Apparently a good match for bouillabaisse, pasta in red sauce, or even heavier faire like duck breast.
80% vermentino/rolle, 20% chardonnay - labelled Domaine La Coste (not Ch La Coste) because chardonnay is not permitted within the AOC. Butter on the nose, tension on the palate with a rich chardonnay finish. Our host described this as "more challenging" than the rose that preceded it, but everyone loved this. Dry vinous savoury finish.
Grenache, Syrah & Cab Sav. 18m in oak. Described as medium to full, rather than heavy, but this was pretty tannic. Some fruit, some spice from the oak. Big red-fruit nose, silky flowing palate then quite dark and brooding with a very forceful tannic finish. "Blackberries with dust." Recommended with fatty steak.
Decanter describes the "satisfying density and purity" with "firm and grippy tannins." - for me this was very similar to the 2019, just immediately and heavily tannic. Decanter notes it's a food wine, but even with the steak au poivre it was still a bit much.
Secondary fermentation in tank rather than in bottle. Nose strongly reminiscent of peaches&cream. Very effervescent. Extra brut - very long, very vinous, savoury and borderline sharp, almost sour. Definitely divided the group, most people didn't like it, although I did.
Vermentino/rolle & Sauv Blanc blend. Served with comte. Six months in oak gives an appealing vanilla note and nice creaminess. Not as enjoyable as the Grand Vin Blanc 2022
Cab Sauv & Syrah. Served with Tomme de Savoie. Very appealing syrah-led profile on the nose. Very tannic, really needs time, although the cheese softened it a lot.
