    buttery, rich, lemon, very slight stone fruit shows unripe peach, sweet spice. Medium plus intensity acidity, tangy , plenty of woody textured grip, fruit a bit lost

  • 2023 Marco Lubiana Pinot Noir Derwent Valley

    Australia, Tasmania

    Sour snakes on the nose; jubey red cherry and berry , slightly herbaceous notes. That lozenge quality translates to the palate but loses the sourness, fresh, simple. Okay.

  • 2022 Gant & Co. Chardonnay 467 Twenty four road blk 3

    Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River

    Rich smelling, oaky, tropical fruit; mango; very slight pineapple, ripe peach. Old school nose. Juicy, slightly awkward acidity feels adjusted, buttery. It's a little monolithic on the palate. Hmm.

    fresh grass, herbaceous, a little green apple. Juicy, medium plus intensity acidity, textured bur is drying green apple, simple. Hmm.

    Rich, melon, slight butter, cream, sweet spice. Palate a reflection of the nose, a little silky rasp joins the flavours and is possibly a little too much…simple…Hmm.

  • 2023 Sabi Wabi Wine Sémillon Sugi

    Medium minus intensity aromas show very slightly ashy apple, meaty underpin. Bone dry, wet stone burr, muted fruit shows a little apple, simple. Hmm.

  • 2023 Intrepidus Chenin Blanc

    Australia, New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Gundagai

    Low intensity aromas are funky, a little citric. Sharp acid, citrus, otherwise fairly anonymous initially, those citric notes do persist long with a touch of bitterness, a little yoghurt and texture.

    Meaty, sour red cherry, peppery underpin, earthy, plummy. Juicy tends to medium plus intensity acidity, fruit tea flavours and black tea tannins. Hmm

  • 2022 Barwang Cabernet Sauvignon Hilltops

    Australia, New South Wales, Southern New South Wales, Hilltops

    Ashy, pyrazine, green, unripe, a little red an blackcurrant in the background. A little more fruit sweetness on the palate but this is fairly green, tannins are slightly unyielding. Pity.

    Pretty cherry, jubey. Equally jubey and charming on the palate, cherry fruit, tannins insinuate themselves. Lovely.

  • 2021 Longview Vineyard Syrah MacClesfield

    Spiced blackberry fruit with a little red hued fruit in support, earthy underpin. Juicy, savoury, feels slightly out of whack on the palate, sour red fruit with muted black fruit, slightly chalky tannins. Meh.

    Sour, volatile acidity, smells sharp and unpleasant. Equally bad on the palate. Can't believe this is deliberate - insufficient sulphur at bottling? FLAW

  • 2023 Penley Estate Project Field Blend

    Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra

    Red over blackcurrant, herbaceous notes, pyrazine. Touch of sweet spice, like the cabernet franc there is a little soupy sweetness married to the sour red fruits and chewy drying tannins. Ugh

  • 2021 Penley Estate Cabernet Sauvignon Tolmer Limited Release

    Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra

    Sweaty blackcurrant, pyrazine, a little earthy note. Juicy tends to medium plus intensity acidity, lashings of drying grippy tannins, fruit is slightly dilute behind this. Nah.

    Slightly dilute, red hued fruits, touch of pencil shavings, earthy underpin. Palate belies the nose; positively soupy, what a pity.

  • 2023 Cape Jaffa Barbera Aura

    Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Wrattonbully

    Medium minus intensity aromas are a little dilute red cherry with more of the same on the palate with medium plus intensity acidity, slightly sour red cherry, woody tannins are very slightly too high for everything here - time should help - fairly simple.

    Pretty but savoury cherry and berry fruit, controlled wild ferment, touch of biscuit and spice. All translates to the palate, softly textured, fresh, finishes clean and long. Simple. Nice

  • 2022 Scanlon Pinot Noir JMS

    More concentration and oak than the estate but showing the same profile on the nose, pretty fruit, a little carbo crush. Juicy, fruit sweet, very slight ashy whole bunch is fully integrated. Yummy. Impressive.

    dialled back butter and accompanies stone fruit with citrus. Juicy, tangy, citrus in the ascendancy on the palate. Simple.

  • 2022 Mac Forbes Chardonnay Gladysdale Villages

    Meaty, savoury wild ferment, quite funky notes joins solids bacon fat to dominate the nose. Palate suffers from the same issue, finishes a little bitter as well. Nah.

  • 2022 Mac Forbes Pinot Noir Gembrook Village Swallowfield Vineyard

    Very slightly funky, no- delineated red fruits, lick of fruit tea, earth. Slightly sour fruit lozenges. Medium plus intensity acidity but it's a little hard and bitter beneath the slightly sour/fresh red fruits, textured burr is slightly drying <shrugs>

  • 2023 Allevare Pinot Noir

    Australia, Victoria, Port Phillip, Yarra Valley

    wild ferment, volatile acidity, sour red cherry, wet stone. Juicy, fleshy, volatile acidity not so obvious on the palate, plenty of raspy tannic burr is drying and grippy, red fruit more non-delineated here, touch of fruit sweetness but meh for me.

  • 2022 GUM Chardonnay Cathedral Range

    Australia, Victoria

    medium minus intensity aromas show a little cream, suppressed malo means that the nose is all lemon and grapefruit, bit of struck match solids work. Juicy, fleshy, soft texture, fruit slightly muted but retains freshness. Simple. Nice in 'that' style.

  • 2023 Musical Folk Chardonnay

    Very cold. Hand warmth shows a little stone fruit over citrus but it's quite bitter on the palate, grippy, clumsy, too much toughness for the fruit. Meh.

  • 2023 Foxeys Hangout Pinot Noir Scotsworth Farm

    Oak more to the fore here; sweet spice, caramel, jubey cherry fruit in support. There is an off-putting wood glue note initially on the palate, fruit appears behind this the is closed down by the oak, <shrugs>

    Red hued fruits, fruit tea; cranberry, slightly herbaceous underpin. Lashings of drying tannins, annoyingly sour red fruit, lacks generosity (and ripeness?) Damn.

  • 2021 Yarra Yering Shiraz Underhill

    Slightly meaty, savoury, touch dilute non delineated black fruits peppery note, earthy. In the mouth it has slightly sour black fruits, chewy though talc textured tannins, non-intrusive alcohol warmth helps carry the finish. Meh today.

  • 2021 Yarra Yering Cabernet Malbec Agincourt

    Pyrazine over blackcurrant, a little sweet spice, plum. Medium plus intensity acidity fruit strays to the red hued on the palate (bah!), silky tannic rasp is slightly drying, alcohol warmth is slightly intrusive on the palate. Meh.

  • 2022 Alessandro Stefani Pinot Noir La Veduta

    Wood glue, volatile acidity, cherry fruit. More of the same on the palate. I'd love to think this is a FLAW but the other two wines are showing similar levels of grubbiness.

    Ooh, some whole bunch, cherry, earthy notes, tomato leaf. Cherry more jubey on the palate, medium plus intensity acidity, slightly peppery notes to accompany the slightly sour cherry fruit, silky drying tannins. Interesting.

Interesting tasting...couple of surprises - those Scanlon Pinot's were pretty special
