  • 2018 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Combe aux Moines Vieille Vigne 94 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

    Served in a pair and given the theme, stylistically this could only be Fourrier. Sublime perfumed bouquet of blood orange, cloves, cardamom, violets and ferrous iron wafting out from glass. Ripe cherries, kirsch, bramble fruit, sage and pine further ensue on the palate. Ripe fruits lead most of us to warm vintages. Fantastic balance and elegance and while distinctively Fourrier, I was pretty surprised at the approachability of the wine.

  • 2018 Domaine Fourrier Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Cherbaudes Vieille Vigne 93 Points

    Served in a pair and given the theme, stylistically this could only be Fourrier. Bouquet a touch more reserved compared to the CAM, showing a darker fruit profile, ripe dark berries and blueberries with cloves and sage dominating the bouquet. Palate more structured than the CAM, with ripe cherries, bramble fruit, pine and tea leaves. Tannins noticeably firmer with good structure. This was less straightforward but we eventually landed on Fourrier with guesses of the vintage all over the place.

    Bouquet opened with cranberries, bayberries and cherries. Palate showing incredibly lifted with sexy dark fruit concentration with silky elegance. Fantastic structure that with age has created balance and seamlessness. Frankly this felt more chambolle-esque and would not have thought this was Fourrier. In a great spot now. Actually had this bottle before in the same room in the same restaurant but this was showing much fresher.

  • 2002 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Aux Beaux Bruns 94 Points

    Good showing of this bottle today! Bouquet showing wet leaves, prunes and morels and quite different from palate which was showing more honey, macerated cherries and licorice. Darker fruit profile here which made sense once was revealed to be Barthod. Good acid on the finish with firm tannins. Plenty of life ahead!

  • 2011 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Baudes 92 Points

    Youthful exuberance from the get go with bouquet throwing forth plenty of dark cherries, mulberries and aromatic florals (violets, lilies and roses). Palate slightly contrasting, while it had good fruit concentration, it was also quite distractingly green with a higher acid profile. Most guesses went to 2011 or 2013.

  • 2016 Domaine Robert Groffier Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Sentiers 92 Points

    Popped at start of dinner and left to breathe in Voss. Big and bold from the onset which is quite typical of Groffier Sentiers. Bouquet and palate showing pretty similar - morello cherries, meat spice, dried pinecones with earthy undertones. With time this got more elegant and with this level of structure, this will surely go the distance. Would love to revisit in 10 years!

  • 2013 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras 92 Points

    Stylistically too similar to the 2010 Barthod Chambolle Cras that I brought so thought this was the exact same producer and plot but different vintage. Identifiably chambolle with a darker fruit profile - bouquet was more prunes, cedar, spice and celery stems. Palate showed similar to bouquet with good fruit concentration but more greenness coming through a little strongly, coupled with high acid on the finish, most thought 2008 or 2013.

  • 2010 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras 93 Points

    Popped 6 hours before and poured into voss. Took a small pour to sample but didn’t like it one bit - felt overly extracted and backwards. Got better at dinner with bouquet and palate showing darker fruit profiles such as prunes, plums, violets and dark cherries. Good balance, good fruit concentration with good acid profile with firm tannins. I would give this more time in bottle to develop.
