A lovely and very well put together chardonnay tasted against some stiff competition (Coche, Millemann, Leflaive etc). Pleasant initial aromatics of sesame / reduction. Mild tropicality and freshness of fruit.
Lacking some sense of depth and richness, but overall a very lovely and well made wine - particualrly for this initial vintage of LS negoce.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Blinded by a friend. Richness and depth of corton. Lovely freshness; acid profile became more evident with air and as the wine cooled slightly. Very delicious bottle.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru
From DJCV. Wow - explosive aromatics of reduction! Almost D'Auvenay-like sesame. Brilliant showing from this wine particularly as it opened with some air. Richness of both fruit and texture / depth. This wine has a lot to say.
A rich and broad shouldered village wine. Lacking to some degree the intense matchstick reduction aromatics that are typical of these wines. Perhaps more tropical than I recall my last bottle being. Overall very yummy.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
From a friend. Showing the best in a line-up of stiff competition. This wine is an exmaple of what heights modern Leflaive can reach. Aromatics were a lovely harmony between reduction and fruit. On the plate, the full Puligny profile was on display; this is a very multidimentsional wine.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Santenay 1er Cru
From a friend. Our most mature wine of the evening. Aromatics slightly shy and muddled with funk, but the palate unfurled to show a truly majestic and mature red burgundy from Potel. A lovely marrive of fruit and Sous Bois.
Also from DJCV. Very characteristic CLB aromatic profile. Deep red fruits and hedonistic floral undertones. This wine is currently beautifully resolved and drinks with great levity - probably at its apex now.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
From LD and sourced from a reputable cellar. The wine came with only a 2002 neck label and the cork labled simply as Truchot Martin. After some discussion it was decided amongst the group (far more experienced in Truchot's wines than I am) that this level of elegance and completeness must be CDLR or MSD Clos Sorbes.
Haunting aromatics and an elegant femininity. Incredible weight and texture of fruit on the palate. Completeness of fruit and acid backbone punctuated with hits of sous bois throughout. Drinking at apex.
