This was the monthly Heidi's Group gathering. Tonight was a group of six with some pretty impressive wines (SS, CV, DD, KB, LI, CS). The food killed as well, and we had a truly impressive server in Siri (not the iphone Siri).
2000 Krug Champagne Vintage Brut 94 Points
France, Champagne
Medium plus gold color. Drank a glass over an hour. The nose is showing cedarbox, apricot, lemon, biscuit, nut skins, and an oxidative character. The palate is dense, full and rich, loads of lemon, hazelnut and hazelnut skins, citrus pith, honey, light toast, mildly oxidative, grapefruit, with Grand Marnier and bitters on the finish. Rich and decadent, not quite as compelling as the last bottle I had.

2001 Domaine Méo-Camuzet Clos Vougeot 97 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos Vougeot Grand Cru
Medium red color, slightly cloudy. Drank a glass over two hours. Popped the cork ahead of travel to check it, it immediately replaced it. This was singing from the get go. Gorgeous nose, hauntingly complex and perfumed; rose petals, dried forest floor, crushed flowers, cherry, orange peel, high toned spices, more subtle red berries. The palate is medium bodied and lifted, with pristine red fruits, cherry, dried raspberry, touch of charcoal, blood orange, bright spices, juicy acidity, elegant and so long. This has a glimmering purtiy that shines throughout. Fantastic. 96+ to 97pts.

2012 Bartolo Mascarello Barolo 93 Points
Italy, Piedmont, Langhe, Barolo
Medium red color. Drank a glass over an hour plus. Decanted for 3 hours and recorked. Soil, minerals, loamy, initially subdued, dried herbs; then gradually there's a lot of ripe berries showing on the nose after 30 minutes at least. The palate also starts out more brooding, black cherry, raspberry liqueur, bold anise, tangy, more prominent tannins, and some wood. This is still evolving, 93+(+)pts.
