France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru
This pours light garnet in the glass. The nose is relatively youthful showing tremendous fruit for the age. The nose is of dried cherry, dried strawberry, pomegranate, even a little watermelon, dusty mineral, iron, curry powder, rose petal, and grilled meat. The palate enters on bright red fruit augmented nicely by rosewater. Tannin is medium minus and acid is medium. The finish is a touch clipped by the tannin and an iron note, but closes nicely on red fruit and the floral rosewater notes. While missing a little complexity that would have taken this to the next level, the profile is very appealing centered on classic Chambolle fruit. All in all a nice showing for this bottle, and other tasters liked this even more than I did.

This pours light garnet in the glass, with heavy bricking. The nose is of beef broth, soy sauce, a touch of rose petals, raspberry and dried lemon peel. The palate enters on light crisp red fruit. The structure feel very resolved with a silky finish. All in all this must have been a sub-optimal bottle. While it showed glimpses of what a better bottle might have been like, the soy and beef broth notes never totally went away and dominated too much for my liking.

This wine pours light garnet in the glass. The nose is initially a tad closed, but over time it unfurls beautifully to show cardamom, cinnamon, dried ginger, dried cherry, mushroom, undergrowth, peonies, red currants, and light roast coffee. The lovely roast coffee note here is just beautifully appealing and nicely leads the way to considerable complexity. The palate is light, airy and elegant. Tannin is medium, acid is medium and the finish is earthy, with light spice and florals. This wine was followed over the course of 4 hours and improved quite a bit over the first couple of hours revealing a wonderful mature Burgundy experience that is in great shape. This bottle with a high fill and great color was just singing.

Sadly this bottle was lightly corked. A shame because it was obvious it was otherwise in perfect condition and would have been truly great.
