Lemony and toasty aroma. Bright high acid lime, with the wood again seeming overt. Finishes with mineral. Many around the party liked this, but it was outshined by the 2008 Grand Dame.
Served blind. This wine confounded me. And in humility, I really missed my guess, thinking this was brut nature and done in a style that was lean and bright. So, putting this on Grand Dame was about a big of a miss as I could make. Green apple, zesty citrus, bright minerality in what started off in a grippy style. With air, this adds a creaminess and a stony note. After I scrawled all of this down, I went back to try another pour, from this out of mag too, and it was GONZO! This really showed me something and from what I could gather, this was excellent.
This was terrific. Apricot and peach with a long, balanced finish of lemony goodness. A few more sips and I got some dark raspberry. Just a really fine example of 2008 done well, with length and balance.
Disgorged April 2022. Did I write that down correctly? Over a decade? No way to reverify so this is ether a long sleep on the lees or I blew the number. A cool spice in this wine, what I called cardamom. Has a churned butter thing in it, plum flesh, lemon curd and some decadence, with a lower acid signature. I'd love to try this again, to validate my experience but another 2008 showing great.
Guess it's 2008 Gimmonet SC week. Had this a few days ago blind, it really left me with a big smile. And, here we are again. This time from mag, and was told this is the July 2019 disgorgement, whereas the 750 earlier this week was disgorged in 2015. So, I guess some bottles were leaving the winery in stages. Lemon and pineapple, yellow apple, fennel and terrific density. Plenty of acid to power the wine, too. The acid and the energy is balanced beautifully. Gimmonet really did a fine job with 2008.
Ironically I was hunting around this past week to see if any of this was around at a good price, and then bam, here it is. April 2017 disgorgement, 100% Chard and no dose. Of all the 2008s we had yesterday, this was the most age-worthy and yoked with the best energy. The lemon here is pure, with a capital P. A lot of it, bright and fresh. And then the tangerine segments. Think of eating a fresh, chilled tangerine, pulling the segments apart and popping them into your mouth. That fresh, that bright. Then drizzle it all with honey and then find a coil in the finish, chocked with mineral. This wine is gonna last a long time, and now I gotta go find some, then forget it in my cellar for another 5 years. Imagine if this sh#t came in mags? Oh lord.
March 2023 disgorgement, 100% Chard, no dose. My buddy threw two full bottles of this onto the table and we just got after it. Yeah, some asian 5-spice in the aroma but overall the wood seemed managed. Love the texture, fleshy and pillowy surrounded by apple. With air, this picked up some dried herb.
March 2022 disgorgement, no dose. My buddy pulled this on impulse and it probably got lost in all the conversation and everything else on the table. All I jotted down was Bartlett pear in canned syrup, like what used to come in the Del Monte cans (still does?). Then, something akin to anise seed. Seemed balanced and fresh, like the bottle from last year.
