American Association of Retired or Partially Retired Wine Guys had their Summer Pot Luck Picnic. I was happy to be included in the festivities. Unfortunately work got in the way and I was late to the party. But the gang saved me pours of everything, thanks guys! We had a fun group to enjoy a nice early summer afternoon (GA, RF, TS, DD, CV, KB, DM). Nita's crab cakes rocked and Gary's special upside-down Mac and Cheese was a great follow up. Fun wines and great time as always. Thanks to Craig, Nita and Joe for hosting.
2006 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut
France, Champagne
Light gold color. Drank a glass after this had been open for a good bit, and had warmed up some. Always a treat to drink, and happy the gang saved me a pour. This afternoon's bottle did not resonate quite as much as others, being more flat and less energetic. That said it drank with more vinous character too. More citrus and white fruits today, less toasty and nutty than usual. Very good. Not really fair to assign a score here.

2016 Domaine Roulot Bourgogne Blanc 90 Points
France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc
Light gold color. Drank a glass over 30 minutes. There's a delightfully swampy and briny earthiness on the nose, with stone fruits, Meyer lemon, and river rock. The palate shows a medium full body, tart lemon, subtle peach, subtle reduction, brine and minerality. Classy and right on point. 90+pts, might improve a hair.

2019 Walter Hansel Winery Chardonnay Cahill Lane 88 Points
USA, California, Sonoma County, Russian River Valley
Light gold color. Small glass over 30 minutes. One hundred and eighty degrees different from the '16 Roulot BB I drank before this. Wow, this is powerful, with a sweet butter-caramel character, oak, quite ripe, apricot, pear, dense and layered. It wasn't working as well for me today with respect to the other wines. I kept thinking maybe some more time, but it is 5 years old now. I generally aprreciate the Hansel wine for their amazing QPR.

2010 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Preuses 96 Points
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru
Drank a glass over 40 miniutes. Well this was singing again out of the gate. These '10's are something else. I love them. Sadly my last Preuses, but happy to share this when it is this blissful. I didn't even write anything down, as I just capivated while savor that inner beauty. Pristine, focused, crisp and so fresh still, tropical notes, Meyer lemon, crystalline minerality, harmonious and filled with powedery dry extract and cruising into a tingling finish. Loved it again. This has a long life ahead of it if you can hold off.

2006 Daniel-Etienne Defaix Chablis 1er Cru Les Lys 91 Points
France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru
Medium gold color. Drank a glass over 30 minutes. This shows a lot of maturity again, honeycomb, rich, candied lemon peel, candied lemon, briohe, crustacean minerality, and almond. It didn't show the acidity and energy, but it was also a bit warm. 91+pts.

2018 Domaine Tempier Bandol Rosé 92 Points
France, Provence, Bandol
Light salmon color. Drank a glass over 40 minutes. Damn good, and fun to follow up the bottle from last weekend. I love the nose, fresh air, tropical, peach, floral, fresh, great acidity and lift. A classic rendition of Tempier. The bottle on Saturday was even a notch better. 92pts. (Saturday was 93pts).

2019 Kenzo Estate Yui 87 Points
USA, California, Napa Valley
Light pink color. Followed a glass over 20 minutes. Very much like a bottle a year ago. I do like the nose here, with it's cherry and red raspberry fruits, but the palate is somewhat dry, overly tart and angular and has the bitters in spades on the back end. The nose carries it.

2021 Château de Pibarnon Bandol Rosé 91 Points
France, Provence, Bandol
Pale salmon color. Drank a glass over 20 minutes. This was a pretty one, in the same vein as the Tempier, though less flashy. It offers up a a classic style of ocean air, red cherry, strawberry, with citrus, blood orange, floral notes, and pretty slaty minerality. 91+ to 92pts.
