100% Chardonnay. White florals, chalk, some herbs and plenty of aromatic lift. Dry mouthfeel, good acid and length with some roundness to the fruit. Nice value for money here.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru
Stone fruit and citrus, with vanilla and straw notes. Pure fruit, clean and considered, quiet but classy. Preferred this to the Chassange Blanchots Dessus which was a bit more punchy and obvious.
Blind, Smoky, apple, spice and toast. Palate has that green apple pinch to it but an overlay of sweet fruit gives it some punch to go with the texture. Liked it quite a bit.
Lime, violets, white florals and a little bit of kero creeping in. Sweet and pure on the palate, a nice mix of sweetness and acidity. Quite dense flavour wise but pushes on. Hopefully lightens up a little bit with more age.
Pineapple, pear, apple, straw and lemon. In a really good spot, vibrant acid still lifting this up in line with the sweetness. Really good length and presence. Excellent.
Earthy, cherry, some animale and redcurrant. Savoury and red fruit profile carries across to the palate, good acid propping it all up. Has held up really well.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Nuits-Saint-Georges 1er Cru
Floral, cherry, spice and graphite on the nose. Palate is mostly finesse driven but there is a good tannin core to it. Acid and red fruit flavours working well together. Really likeable.
Cherry, charred notes, redcurrant and smoke. Dense and powerful fruit, does it need time to settle? I haven't had an overly impressive bottle of the Les Dames Huguettes yet across 2019 and 2020.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Chassagne-Montrachet
Redcurrant, cherry, raspberry and rose. Bright and juicy red fruit profile on the palate, plenty of pure fruit and a little bit of spice in the background to give it dimension. Really impressed by this.
Graphite, tobacco, redcurrant on the nose. Drying tannins on the palate, intense and full flavoured. Feel like this needs re-visiting in around 10 years.
Blind. Eucalyptus, violets and spice on the nose. Plenty of tannin and structure on the palate, fruit has a sweet tinge to it. Needs 4-5 years minimum to soften. Some interest here but very early on.
Blind. Graphite, red berries, smoke, spice - open and attractive nose. Palate is sweeter fruited but has depth to it with good texture and punch. Pushes along the palate with great length. Young but excellent.
Blind. Pepper, spice, plum and dark floral notes. Brighter on the palate, sweet fruit to go with the spice, juicy with mid length. Packs a bit of everything into the wine but not sure it hit the right spot with me.
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
Blind. Blueberry, red currant, slate, smoke and blackberries. Dense and flavourful, starting to soften very slightly out at the edges but still plenty of power and life. Balanced with a good core structure. Flavour extends quite long. Excellent.
Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Barossa Valley
Redcurrant and violets, some cherry as well. Classic Basket Press medium bodied style, stable and consistent but a little boring with whatever fruit they are using these days.
