A very decent NV at this level - this had a bit of quality to it. It had a pleasant enough nose, quite classic Blanc de Blancs, with notes of cream, white fruit and apple flesh lightly sprinkled with a hint of spice. The palate was very friendly, with a gentle mousse and soft acidity wrapped around clean notes of apples on their peels. Finish was decent rather than great. A simple drop, but well put together and very drinkable.
Still very youthful in spite of a good, long decanting. This was a pretty solid, if unspectacular vintage of Las Cases though. The nose still showed some remnants of sweet oak, but beyond that was a very nice melange of cassis and tobacco notes. On the palate, like the very best of the 2004 left-banks, this felt at once clean and pure, yet had a good amount of power. An elegant strength I would say, with nice notes of cassis and tobacco held together in a frame of fine-boned tannins and chewy, well-integrated acidity. A wine of both purity and strength. With time, a savoury backdrop started to come out as well, with little shaded of meatiness and some earth. Still a baby - this needs time to build complexity, and should continue to age nicely over the next decade and more.

2004 Château Léoville Las Cases 93 Points
