  • 1999 Leonetti Cellar Merlot Columbia Valley 83 Points

    USA, Washington, Columbia Valley

Day 1: Smoke, earth, dust and dried flowers. This wine is past peak for sure but will revisit on day 2 to confirm. 83 points
Day 1.5: Sadly this will not improve. Dust, sour cherry, earth and dried twigs. Short finish. Past peak sadly. 80 points
Day 2: This wine is for sure past its prime. While a few bottles might be more stellar not worth taking the chance via auction. Sour cherry, bell peppers and earth. Void of any detectable fruit. 80 points
    Recommendation: Drink 10 years ago.

  • 2011 Le Cadeau Pinot Noir Merci Reserve 93 Points

USA, Oregon, Willamette Valley, Chehalem Mountains

Day 1: Disappointed in this. From Wine bid. Cranberry, dust, chalk, dried twigs and sour cherry. Lacks concentration and balance. Shorter finish. 88 points
Day 2: Another day makes a big difference here. Much more intense on day 2 featuring forest floor, strawberry, cranberry, violets, mushroom, earth and spices. Medium finish and nice acidity. 93 points
Recommendation: Decant 2 to 3 hours if serving same day. These should age for another 3 to 5 years.

  • 2020 Januik Cabernet Sauvignon Red Mountain

USA, Washington, Columbia Valley, Red Mountain

Not a fan. Love Januik but the 2020 vintage for reds across the west coast is mostly miss. Smoke, earth and lacks pronounced fruit. Will try again on day 2.
Day 2: Not good. Will not rate it officially but mid 70s for sure.
Recommendation: I have had some 2020 reds that have been very good on the west coast but too many areas have smoke impact.
