Flight 1 (2 Notes)

  • 2016 Tenuta Greppo (Biondi-Santi) Brunello di Montalcino 95 Points

    Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino

    Opened 5 hours prior, double decanted 2 hours before serving

    So fresh and inviting nose of cherry, strawberry.

    Supremely elegant palate, very high acidity, subtle tannins alongside strawberry seeds and a very long finish. Perhaps the slightest touch of heat on the backend.

    Day two shows even more substance on the palate, a lot of earthy notes alongside high pitched red fruits. Not far from the Riserva 16, just a touch less weightless.

  • 2016 Tenuta Greppo (Biondi-Santi) Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 97 Points

    Opened 5 hours prior to dinner, double decanted 2 hours before serving

    A step up in complexity after the Annata, showing cedar tree, very ripe cherries, caramel, vanilla and so much mineralité.

    Great freshness on the palate, seems weightless, yet impactful. Lemongrass, blood orange, crushed rocks and warm soil carries the very long finish.

    On day 2, the length is imposing with dusty strawberries, incredibly beautiful and elegant, so archetypical Sangiovese and Biondi-Santi.

    Slow-oxed 2 h

    A deep nose of dark berries with overtones of raspberry bushes and rose stems.

    The palate is suave and caressing, a touch more tertiary aromas with leather, forest floor, hawthorn on top of rhubarb and strawberries. Long finish.

    Lovely, and for me, very ready to drink.

    More purple fruits next to Tignanello, stony minerality and a touch of wet wood. Almost a bit burly, seems younger than a bottle 4 years ago..

    Brighter profile on the palate, medium bodied, very classy structure and a very subtle and long, sweet finish.

    Extremely sweet nose, yet it also retained hints of freshness. Star fruit and cotton candy.

    Comical sweetness on the palate, candy shop all the way, flat and pretty much undrinkable.

  • 2018 Domaine Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er Cru Les Cras

    Double decanted 3 hours prior to serving

    Dense nose of faint strawberry, vanilla, slate and white chocolate.

    Red berries on the palate, enormous length with dusty cherry pits and smoke.

    This is all potential for now, remaining cases will not be touched for at least a decade.
