    Lemon and lime, sulphur, chalky minerality, floral. Tart, citrus with green apple underpin, slight textured, simple. Young.

  • 2023 Rieslingfreak Riesling No. 12

    Australia, South Australia, Barossa, High Eden

    Lemon and a little honeyed note, touch of stone shows as nectarine. Medium plus intensity acidity, quite hard and touch on the palate, acidity is pointy. It's out of whack but very young. Meh today.

  • 2022 Pooley Riesling Margaret Pooley Tribute

    Australia, Tasmania, Coal River

    medium minus intensity aromas of lime over green apple, white flowers. Juicy, fresh, a little fleshy as well, very slightly muted fruits but balanced, medium plus length, touch of sulphur on the finish. Nice mouthfeel.

  • 2022 Pressing Matters Riesling R0

    Australia, Tasmania, Coal River

    Medium minus intensity aromas of non delineated citrus and orchard fruits, the latter in ascendancy, perfumed top notes. Juicy tends to medium plus intensity acidity, tight, textured grip is pleasing, mouth puckering, muted fruit but yum. Bone dry.

  • 2022 Pressing Matters Riesling R9

    Ooh, a little struck match, muted fruit shows green apple, pear, a little unripe clementine. Despite some residual sugar this is quite sharp, the fruit muted, and a tiny touch of textured. Meh for me.

  • 2023 Howard Park Riesling Great Southern

    Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Great Southern

    Ooh, a little kerosene, crunchy orchard fruit, touch of eucalyptus leads to an almost sauvignon blanc note. In the mouth it's juicy, tart, hard, with sulphur, green apple and non delineated citrus. Meh.

    Green apples, muted citrus, a little blossom, Pronounced acidity married to sour fruit makes this something I cannot get out of my mouth quick enough but I'm very much not a 'sour' person.

  • 2023 Robert Oatley Chardonnay Signature

    Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River

    Struck match bacon fat, peach, lees work, touch of citrus shows grapefruit and mandarin. Grapefruit and grapefruit skin bitterness is more to the fore in the mouth, mid palate texture, long, non intrusive alcohol warmth helps carry the finish. Time should help but it's a little unripe for me.

    struck match reductiveness, cream, slight butter, melon, stone fruit, oak lends sweet spice, and very slight vanilla. In the mouth it's rich and generous, tine required but the components are present and beginning to mesh; flavours as per the nose, touch of textured burr here as well Yum.

    fruit forward, melon over stone fruit, very slight orange, hints of sweet spice and a smidge of butter. More of the same on the palate, medium length, that buttery note presents a little higher on the finish. Simple though balanced. Undeniably a well made wine

    Slight struck match, touch of mineral and oyster shell, lemon, floral notes and stone fruit with time but remaining in support. In the mouth it's juicy, tangy, citrus is in charge on the palate as well. Slightly textured burr. Long. Nice.

    Spritz, Stoney minerality, candy floss, a little lime, orange and floral notes. Juicy with a textured burr perhaps a little residual sugar, that slight candy floss note is here as well as the citrus fruit, fleshy, approachable. Okay

    Fruit forward with nectarine showing at the front and a little mandarin. On the palate, it's juicy though the fruit is less well delineated, a little sulphur, tangy, touch of textured. Okay.

    From magnum. Peaches and cream, very slight bitter, controlled oak. In the mouth it's juicy and tangy with mid palate textured burr, stone fruit, creamy lees, very slight butter, long. Non intrusive alcohol warmth on the finish. Yum.

    Slightly ashy whole bunch supports pretty cherry fruit, a little earthy forest floor. Pretty nose. In the mouth is very slightly sour, ashy, fleshy. Juicy cherry fruit, textured burr on the mid palate, non intrusive alcohol warmth on the finish.

    Super ashy whole bunch dominates the nose, a little black fruit in the background. On the palate it's much of a muchness; firm tannic grip is drying but softly textured. Hmm. Simple. Time. I find the whole bunch less irritating than I have historically.

    Red berry sits between compote and jam, alcohol prickle lends peppery notes. Juicy, fleshy, tight tannins are powdery, red hued fruit. I'd say that they've stuck in some Mataro but they claim old vine, thick skinned grenache. Interesting.

    Red and blackcurrant has a little jammy underpin, cedar, alcohol prickle, a little clumsy and unwieldy on the nose. Medium plus intensity acidity, red and blackcurrant fruit, plenty of tightly grained tannins, fruits persists but it's a bit like sucking a stave. Time should help but hmm today.

    Dark fruits show a little black currant, sweet spice is present but dialled back, a little mint and cedar complete the picture. Elegant nose. In the mouth it's juicy, fleshy, tannins are a little too much for the fruit, alcohol helps carry the finish. Time but quite nice.

    Blackcurrant and mint, herbaceous underpin, a little red currant in support as well as some sweet spice. In the mouth it's juicy tending to medium plus intensity acidity, fresh blackcurrant over red currant, cedar, tannins are integrate and it finishes with the more red hued fruits ascending. Hmm.

    Eucalyptus and mint over crunchy fresh blackcurrant, touch of salinity, cedar. Juicy, fleshy, a little tar and liquorice join the black currant fruit, a touch too concentrated for me…tannins are chalky, tight, again the fruit tends to the red hued on the finish. Decant and or time should help.

    Reductive initially…with agitation It starts to show red plums and currants, herbaceous notes. Smells a little unripe or harvested early. On the palate it's tight with red hued fruit, chalky tannins, a little green underpin. Not very nice.

    Black and red currant, black plums, sweet spice, slight cream, alcohol prickle. Alcohol warmth dominates the palate, fruit is a touch jammy & non delineated, tannins are woody, tight, savoury. Years required and even then that pokey alcohol could be problematic.

    Reductive and rubbery, red and blackberry fruit, a little sweet spice, slightly dilute smelling though. Juicy, tight powdery tannins married to red and black fruits, touch of mid palate scoop (oddly), tannins persist. Simple, okay and air will help.

    Blackcurrant, cedar, the fruit proves a little jammy with time. Mint, eucalyptus and dusty baked earth in the background. Juicy then the immediacy of the tannic attack is near devastating, palates smashing. It is a bit of a beast. Time for some protein I think.

    Blackcurrant is a little on the ripe and jammy side. Oak lends sweet spice, a little overdone on the nose. In the mouth it's juicy, fleshy, oak is very present, black hued fruit tends to the jammy here as well. It's just not what I'm looking for.

    Herbaceous notes initially, red over black fruits with alcohol again lending a peppery prickle. Juicy, medium plus intensity acidity, black and red currant, chewy, chalky tannins are drying and still in charge on the palate even after 10 years. Will it ever integrate? very long decant required.
