  • 2021 Adrien Berlioz Vin de Savoie Chignin-Bergeron La Cuvee des Gueux

Initially a little volatility and wood glue over citrus; lemon and a touch of grapefruit. On the palate it's sharp, citric, leesy texture, a little fresh natural yoghurt. Hmm.

  • 2023 Elena Walch Pinot Grigio

Italy, Trentino-Alto Adige, Alto Adige, Alto Adige - Südtirol

Saline, mineral notes; struck flint, pear over melon, touch of jubiness. Juicy, fleshy, savoury, plenty of textured burr, slight warmth, a little pear with pear skin bitterness, lacks freshness; strays to the flabby. Meh.

  • 2022 Claude Quenard & Fils Vin de Savoie Chignin

France, Savoie, Vin de Savoie Chignin

Fresh herbs over lemon, grapefruit and kumquat, a little minerality. In the mouth it's quite sour, citric, tight, tart, short, simple and offensively expensive at AUD 63

  • 2019 Claude Quenard & Fils Chignin-Bergeron Flawed

France, Savoie, Vin de Savoie Chignin-Bergeron

  • 2022 Château de Merande Roussette de Savoie Son Altesse

    France, Savoie, Roussette de Savoie

medium minus intensity aromas initially; with hand warmth and agitation shows orange, mandarin, a little fresh herbs, butter…more of the same on the palate, quite rich, touch of alcohol warmth on the finish, a little soft. Hmm.

  • 2022 Azienda Vinicola Falkenstein Riesling

Italy, Trentino-Alto Adige, Alto Adige, Val Venosta

Farty wild ferment over muted non delineated citrus, simple and unpromising nose. In the mouth the slightly sour acidity combined with the wild ferment funky savouriness and a touch of textured create the impression of the mutant deformed off spring of shit Heymann Lowenstein. Nah

  • 2021 Azienda Vinicola Falkenstein Weissburgunder

Italy, Trentino-Alto Adige, Alto Adige, Val Venosta

Struck match, yellow fruits, touch of stone fruit, savoury underpin. Medium plus intensity acidity, yellow fruits again, leesy burr, alcohol warmth. It's a bit out of whack and not very nice for me.

  • 2022 Ottin Petite Arvine

    Italy, Valle d'Aosta

Stone fruit shows peaches, a little sweer spice, touch of fresh orange. Juicy, fleshy, fruit forward stone fruit and oranges, smidge of mid palate burr lends breadth. Rather nice.

  • 2019 Domaine de Chatillon Mondeuse Vin de Savoie

    France, Savoie, Vin de Savoie

Aromas of fresh blue and blackberry fruit touch of plum, a little bacon fat. Slightly sour lightweight fruit on the palate, juicy, skin derived tannins tug at the tongue, a little white pepper on the finish. Simple but nice.

  • 2020 Franz Haas Pinot Nero

Italy, Trentino-Alto Adige, Alto Adige, Alto Adige - Südtirol

Oof, lots of caramel oak; reminds me of Baden Pinot Noirs I've had. Black hued fruits are very much in the background on the nose. In the mouth it's juicy, with the back fruits still proving more of a melange, plenty of oak here as well with associated woody grip that proves surprisingly silky, a little alcohol warmth on the finish. Not for me.

  • 2022 Adrien Berlioz Vin de Savoie Cuvée Rosa

    France, Savoie, Vin de Savoie

A stinky, quite horse shitty, Bretty note here over grubby plums and blackberries, tiny liquorice notes as well. Sour and unpleasant on the palate, drying tannic grip is silky textured but closes down the finish which , judging by the crime scene on the nose, isn't a necessarily a bad thing. Nah.

  • 2021 Château de Merande La belle romaine

    France, Savoie, Vin de Savoie

Sour black plums, a little liquorice and black over green peppercorns, smidge of Bretty funkiness is positively sophisticated after the last wine. In the mouth it's sour blackberry and plum, plenty of grippy drying, slightly coarse textured tannins. <shrugs>

  • 2022 Les Crêtes Torrette

    Italy, Valle d'Aosta, Torrette

Pretty red berry fruits; raspberry, strawberry, slightly jubey notes. More of the same in the mouth, tends to the compote with a little savoury underpin. Tannins are very slight bitter and dry out the palate, fruit persists though. Yum

  • 2021 Boffalora Rosso di Valtellina Umo

Italy, Lombardia, Valtellina, Rosso di Valtellina

Farty notes dominate the nose with a little sweet red cherry flapping it's hankie to dispense the stench. It's a touch farty on the palate as well, the cherry note is present - good hankie work cherry! Though not as sweet smelling as the nose this is certainly not Amaro territory, talc textured burr persists long. Okay without so much whiffiness.

  • 2022 Mamete Prevostini Botonero Terrazze Retiche di Sondrio IGT

Italy, Lombardia, Terrazze Retiche di Sondrio IGT

Fruit tea, a little caramel note, jubey (carbonic?) fruit lozenge and a little sweaty blackcurrant. More of the same on the palate, positively Ribena. Beautifully integrated tannins are coarse flour textured. No typicity for me but rather good fun.

  • 2020 Dirupi Rosso di Valtellina "Olé!"

Italy, Lombardia, Valtellina, Rosso di Valtellina

Savoury, slightly meaty, dilute red cherry, a little pot pourri, tiny metallic note. Almost a touch of ashy whole bunch on the palate, grippy drying tannins are coarse and in charge here…not much else gets past. Time?

  • 2019 Dirupi Valtellina Superiore

    Italy, Lombardia, Valtellina, Valtellina Superiore

Medium minus intensity dusty red fruits; a little raspberry with a savoury underpin, touch of lozenge. Medium plus intensity acidity, red hued fruits, dense, drying tannins are powdery textured, fruit persists. Balanced. Complete. Difficult to spit

  • 2018 Dirupi Sforzato di Valtellina Vino Sbagliato

Italy, Lombardia, Valtellina, Sforzato di Valtellina

Rich, dense smelling with ripe plum, cherry, red berry tends to the jammy. In the mouth it has medium plus intensity acidity and tannin, fruit sweet with a savoury underpin, tannins are coarse flour textured, all travels long with a fair lick of alcohol on the finish. Woof.
