The Gallon Gang Reunion

After five years we finally got all members of the Gallon Gang together again at the W's.

• 2023 Caves d'Esclans Whispering Angel 87 Points

  France, Provence, Côtes de Provence

  PnP, chilled. Very light strawberry aromas lead to a palate of the same, along with some watermelon, lemon and minerality. The acidity is balancing, and the wine is dry. Should hold for a couple of years.

• 2021 Charles Smith Riesling Kung Fu Girl 89 Points

  USA, Washington

  PnP, chilled. Some minerality and tropical fruit notes on the nose. The palate showed some peach, mango, minerality, citrus, and only a touch of residual sugar. All were balanced by appropriate acidity. Should continue to hold.

• 2020 Nittnaus Blauer Zweigelt 88 Points

  Austria, Burgenland

  PnP, but better after about 20-30 minutes of air which allowed the fruit to open. On the nose there were some dark fruits - blackberry, black cherry, raspberry - that followed on to the medium bodied palate, along with touches of spice and minerality. The acidity was fresh, and the tannins were integrated. Could continue to hold.

• 2022 Palamà Negroamaro Kalá Salento IGT 88 Points

  Italy, Puglia, Salento IGT

  PnP, but definitely better after 15-20 minutes of air. There were notes of dark fruits and earth on the nose. The medium bodied palate showed mostly dark red fruits, spice and earth, with streaks of brighter red fruit and blue fruit as well. The acidity was balancing, and any tannins were completely integrated. Really good QPR at $12-15 per magnum. Should hold for several years.
