    Impressive from the get go! Bouquet chalky with sudachi, nashi pear and stone fruit. Palate slightly saline while showing pear skins, peaches, jasmine flower and limestone with plenty of tension and precision. Felt very Puligny on the bouquet but distinctly Meursault on the palate. Very high quality wine here and on any other day, I would have pegged this for premier cru quality easily. In fact, I thought this was drinking really closely to Lafon Clos de la Barre.

  • 2017 Domaine Bernard-Bonin Meursault Les Tillets 94 Points

    I was pretty surprised at this bottle. Basis previous interactions with Bernard Bonin, the wines tended towards a very oxidative style with a touch of natural-ish style of winemaking. This, however, was nothing like that. Bouquet opened in classic burgundian fashion with opulence of fruit, lemon rind, yellow stone fruits and chrysanthemum with touches of flint and reduction. Palate chalky and creamy with freshness, plenty of tension and crisp acidity. This definitely punched about its weight class - I would say, rush out and buy everything but a quick search showed crazy price escalation already 🤣

  • 2002 Domaine Roulot Meursault Les Tessons Clos de Mon Plaisir 93 Points

    Considering the number of older Roulots I’ve had the chance to come by that were mostly premoxed, this was immaculate and holding up really well! Hazelnuts, popcorn, apricots and peaches dominate the bouquet while honeysuckle, pears, bruised apples, lemon rind and walnut skin more apparent on the palate.     Interesting when this was revealed to be a 17 AL VR, would have thought this would be more lifted and ethereal, with considerations to the vintage. Bouquet definitely showing dark fruit, marsala meat spice and blood orange, with palate showing licorice, black fruit, plums and chocolate. Drinking nicely today and definitely room for upside! Still confused by this bottle, would not have pegged this to be a 17!

  • 2021 Jérôme Galeyrand Gevrey-Chambertin La Justice 92 Points

    This would do great in blinds 🤣. Made in a modern and lifted style that is in-demand these days, this opens up with a nice stemmy bouquet with transparency and purity of fruit with good florals. Palate showing cola cherry, pomegranate, bayberries amidst heft. This is elegant and frankly still tight, only due to the youthful nature of this showing, but already hitting the spots.

    First ever Engel and super stoked to try it! This was showing incredibly youthful and backward even with a robust structure and grippy tannins. Bouquet dominated by wild red fruit, think strawberries, pomegranate, candied cranberry, florals like violets, marsala spices and menthol. With some air, palate showed off ripe fruit concentration with depth and precision, even if tightly wound. Plenty of structure here with creamy texture and youthfulness that makes me think this could go for another 10 years!

    At this time, believe that this was popped and breathing for 6 to 7 hours. Bouquet showed quality and heft, red bramble fruit, smoke, spice and plums. With air, this was pretty on the palate, showing good fruit concentration and purity of fruit, wild strawberries and bayberries come to mind. Tannins velvety at this stage with good intensity albeit slightly clenched. Telling signs of a warm and ripe year but this surely outperformed 2003 as a vintage!

  • 2014 Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé Chambolle-Musigny 92 Points

    Popped into voss for 6 hours at this point, but felt like I popped it 6 hours too late 🤣 Aromatic bouquet showing licorice, black plums, truffles, slight funk and wood spice. Palate slightly green, with cherry stems, mulberries and sage. Too dense and definitely too young at this stage, I would pop the next one in at least 10 years!
