Introduction
Since we don't have bona fide Alsatian restaurants here, this Austrian restaurant was kind enough to create an Alsatian meal (tarte flambée, steak tartare, coq au Riesling, and apple pastry) to go with an interesting range of Alsatian wines.

2016 Trimbach Muscat Reserve

Yellow. Not that aromatic. Light, dry, and crisp with good acidity and some soil.

2019 Trimbach Pinot Blanc

Yellow. Apple scents. Off dry, rounder than the Muscat but lower acidity. Some soil on the finish.

2011 Trimbach Gewurztraminer Cuvée des Seigneurs de Ribeaupierre
France, Alsace
Very aromatic, pungent lichee. Medium to light weight. Off dry. Lovely citrus, adequate acidity, no bitterness on the finish. Very good.

2011 Hugel Gewurztraminer Grossi Laüe
France, Alsace
Deeper yellow. Mellow, low toned aromas that are less overtly varietal than the Trimbach. Fuller, slightly spicy, and off dry. Really well defined citric fruit and a cyanic twist on the finish. Serious Gewürztraminer which I preferred to the Trimbach Seigneurs.

2016 Trimbach Riesling Frédéric Emile

Classic tea and stone fruit profile. Minimal RS, only average acidity for this cuvée but appealing slate-like minerality. This falls off on the finish, and by my recollection, the 390ème may be just about as good as this. Too loose. Disappointing.

2014 Trimbach Riesling Clos Ste. Hune
France, Alsace
Finer, lighter weight, less fruit, and more minerality and acidity than the 2016 Frédéric Emile. Penetrating lime and soil finish. Definitely a lighter style CSH along the lines of say the 2004 but brisk, young, and exhilarating.

1996 Zind-Humbrecht Pinot Gris Rangen de Thann Clos St. Urbain
France, Alsace, Alsace Grand Cru
Golden. Odd volatility and oxidation on the nose. Better on the palate but still old style full throttle ZH with VT richness and sweetness and a short, bitter finish. Weird and unenjoyable.

1998 Domaine Weinbach Riesling Cuvée Ste. Catherine

Full dull yellow. Herb and petrol. Medium weight. Off dry stone fruit with a more tropical component. Excellent acidity and soil. Fades on the finish and lacks grip and concentration. Good but past its best.

2012 Hugel Riesling Grossi Laüe

Broader and lower pitched than the 1998 Weinbach. Bigger and lower acidity than that wine. Citrus, spice, and a long, soil tinged finish. Very good but it seemed more dull than a bottle tasted just last week.

2011 Trimbach Gewurztraminer Vendanges Tardives

Yellow. Floral and quite varietal nose. Medium weight. Lovely citric core. Elegant and only moderately sweet. Excellent but think of this more as a cheese accompaniment rather than as a dessert wine.

2007 Trimbach Gewurztraminer Sélection de Grains Nobles Hors Choix

Light golden. Deeply honeyed aromas that are not particularly floral or exotic. Medium to full bodied, long and verging on unctuous. Spicy apricot, just impeccably balanced Gewürztraminer. Absolutely outstanding and delicious although perhaps not as profound as the 2001 Trimbach SGN, which must be the greatest late harvest Gewurz I have ever tasted.
