Introduction

Started off with a tragically corked Dom '96, which I haven't accounted for in the TN.

Flight 1 (6 Notes)

  • 2008 De Saint Gall Champagne Grand Cru Cuvée Orpale Blanc de Blancs

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

(Blind) 100% Chard from four GC villages: Mesnil-sur-Oger, Cramant, Avize & Oger. Dosage 8g/L according to de Saint Gall's website.
Matchstick on the nose. Sweet lemon curd with sweet almond nuttiness. Oak is not integrated and dominates the finish. Came a cross like a big house. It probably needs a few more years to come together.

  • 2018 Rémi Leroy Champagne Blanc de Noirs

    France, Champagne

(Blind) 100% PN, dosage 1g/L. Ever so slightly salmon in color. Some yeastiness on the nose. Yellow cherry, strawberry, pink grapefruit zest, with a slightly herbal finish. Wish I had revisited to get a better description of the finish.

  • 2015 Remy Massin & Fils Pinot Noir Champagne "Special Club" Brut Millésime

    France, Champagne

(not blind) Apricot explosion! Yellow nectarines, sweet lemon zest and what seemed like something vaguely herbal in the mid palate that I could not describe. Not overtly PN, but delicious nonetheless.

  • 2015 Louise Brison Champagne Rosé de la Côte des Bar

    France, Champagne

(my bring, so not blind). Limpid red-pink. On the first go, it was probably too cold /needed more air. Upon revisit: Cherry, yellow cherry, more cherry and this time I got some strawberry. Something spicey going on in the finish, that on the second day came across clearly as combo of cinnamon and a bit of nutmeg. Rich despite 0 dosage.

  • NV Vilmart & Cie Champagne Premier Cru Grand Cellier Œnothèque T15

    France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

(blind) Matchstick on the nose, that upon revisit had masked some light TCA for me. Maybe I didn't want to acknowledge that there could be two (!!) corked champagnes in a line-up of seven - what are the odds? In any case, it didn't seem to interfere with the palate: lots of tangerine & tangerine curd. Very round and densebut seems to be missing some acidity. Interesting experiment in that this is the regular Grand Cellier held after disgorgement for extra years in Vilmart's cellars.

  • 2008 Henri Goutorbe Champagne Grand Cru Special Club

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

(Blind) I believe this bottle was a late release (disg. 2020). Soft puffy mousse, the nicest of the evening. Mini strong bead. On the nose, some yeast and nectarine. On the palate, lots of lightly sweetened lemon curd, nectarine, and something that I struggled to place in the mid-palate. I cycled through an unidentifiable sweet herb, lemongrass, kumquat, pineapple, and unripe mango, but none of those felt accurate. Oh well. It was interesting and delicious, with just enough acidity to keep it lively.
