  • 2002 Faiveley Echezeaux 92 Points

France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Echezeaux Grand Cru

5/12. This has a lovely, mature nose - smoky, gamey, with underlying red fruits. Medium bodied, red and some black fruit, game again, notes of leather soft tannins, some soil on the good length finish. Drinking well for me though no hurry of course.

Flight 4 (2 Notes)

  • 1990 Château Rausan-Ségla 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux

Lovely nose with tobacco, smoke, leather, some blackcurrant fruit. Medium bodied, cool dark fruit, spice, smoky mineral - classic claret - tobacco again, soft tannins, fresh acids, great length. Perhaps tired a touch after an hour or so showing some toffeed notes but lovely, mature claret. Drink up.

  • 1996 Château Calon-Ségur 91 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Estèphe

This shows blackcurrant, smoke, vanilla, cedar, a touch of leafiness. Medium bodied, quite sleek almost lean, cedary dark fruit, fresh acids, decent length slightly spare finish. Attractive though if very much in a leaner ‘96 type style,

  • 2000 Château Haut-Bailly 93 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Lovely, mature Graves nose, blackberry fruit, smoke, mineral. Warm bricks! Medium/full bodied, smoky dark fruit, spice, still with a firm but fine tannic spine, but plenty of covering fruit, fresh acids, good length, grippy finish. Excellent, certainly drinking but still probably on upslope.

  • 2005 Château Haut-Bailly 92 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan

Slightly reserves nose with blackberry, spice, some smoky mineral. Medium/full, blackberries again, smoky gravelly notes, rich fruit over still slightly furry tannins, fresh acids, good length. Needs time but should be excellent

  • 2005 Château Léoville Barton 95 Points

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Julien

Again slightly reticent but showing some gorgeously pure blackcurrant fruit, cedar, spice. Just a touch of mineral. Medium/full bodied, again lovely pure black fruit on initial entry, deep, palate staining, deep, cedar notes, fir, but fine tannins, vibrant acids, long, long finish. Still needs time but this should be outstanding.
