Knew the maker from the foil but first time having a negoce wine that I was impressed by. As usual, a Chardonnay from Bereche that was rich but balanced, superb texture and verve.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Rich, old-school white Burg with butterscotch and creamy notes. I was dead sure this was a '06 or '08 Meursault but most guessed as Chassagne from post '10s. A bit too lactic for me but a good example of a white Burg of this era.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Had a clue that both wines in this flight were from the same vintage, so I concluded they must be '02s because of the tell-tale sweet fruit. Most preferred its flightmate (Drouhin), but I said this was by far the better maker and I agreed with a friend who guessed Lignier. Pure, crystalline dark fruit; intoxicating perfumed nose. So sensual and vibrant for a 22 year old wine. By far the WOTN.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
More understated compared to the exuberant Lignier alongside, but had autumnal, sweet dark red fruit. Tannins were soft and lush, suggesting that this was at its apogee.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Brought for a friend. Very similar to the 2014; dark, luscious fruit but dominated by oak spice and structure at the moment. More open with air and at a better stage for drinking than the '14.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
My contribution. More advanced than I would have liked but others liked this; most guessed early '90s. Smoky, Gevrey-like nose, tannic structure still present but fruit was rather muddled.
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
I guessed '01 Gevrey maker, but disappointed that I didn't get Jadot because this was quintessentially Jadot in hindsight. Spicy, sappy dark blue fruit, rather masculine but still giving enough pleasure at this stage of its life.

2014 Lucien Le Moine Clos de la Roche 89 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru
Similar to the 2013, but more overworked and shutdown. Barely any discernible fruit behind the wall of structure and oak.
