Flinty and reductive on the opening with a touch of lemon rind and limestone. Palate broadens out with ripe apricots, pears, orange rind and yellow peaches with chalkiness and salinity. I liked the bouquet better than the palate which is still quite tight at the moment but with plenty of potential and promise. This might have shut a little since its debut a few years ago but Lamy always drinks consistently well and will surely improve.
Popped and left to bottle breathe for 1.5 hours. On first pour, bouquet was stemmy and sensual with red fruits, violets and marsala spice. Sadly, not 5 mins later most of these all went away and the wine hardened up so much in glass. Palate showing dark red fruits, licorice and oak with stiff tannins and crisp acidity. With time, this got alcoholic and disjointed - this probably needs a lot more time.
Popped and decanted for 2-3 hours. Slight VA on the bouquet but nothing a quick chill can’t solve. Rose petals, dark plums, cedar, smoke and earth dominate the bouquet that was quite reserved. Palate showing opulence and power with good balance and heft - licorice, dark cherries, mushrooms and marsala spices. Good intensity and vibrant concentration of fruit, could go the distance with the right provenance.
