Introduction

Another Chablis tasting this year - this one Grand Cru from any vintage. Very nice lineup of mostly younger examples.

Flight 2 - Chablis - with ceviche and poached salmon (9 Notes)

  • 2000 François Raveneau Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

    Group #7, My #6 - Medium pale/yellow color. Medium nose of mineral, saline, and iodine, with a hint of dust. Nice rich slightly mature mineral palate with a long finish. Seemed to actually open up a bit more with some air.

  • 2002 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

    Group #6, My #7 - Brigth paloe white/yellow color. Medium mineral with slight high-toned sweetness (?) Nice big rich mineral with a thick mouthfeel and good acidity. Nice. 93+ pts.

  • 1995 Domaine Laroche Chablis Grand Cru Blanchot 83 Points

    France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis Grand Cru

    Group #10, My #10 - Medium copper color. Full butterscotch nose with clear oxidative notes. Still some life on the first sip with caramel and butterscotch notes, but fell apart pretty quickly after that.

    Group #3, My #9 - Medium pale yellow color. Medium full nose of white yellow fruit with good mineral. Rich honeyed mineral and sligthly sour on the palate - tart finish.

  • 2002 Domaine Christian Moreau Père et Fils Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 95 Points

    Group #2, My #2 - Medium pale yellow color. Lovely big white grapefruit and mineral nose. Nice big rich oozing liquid stone but wit ha nice fruit ripeness too. Long tight finish with good structure.

    Group #4, My #3 - Medium pale yellow color. Nice rich mineral briar white yellow fruit. Nice tight dustry mineral white fruit an spice on the palate with a long finish - nice!

    Group #5, My #1 (ringer) - Pale yellow color. Medium full slightly tight sour white fruit nose. Mmmn, big rich tight focused laser mineral and seashell with an electric finish. Lots of complexity here. A great ringer for a Chablis tasting...

  • 2004 Domaine William Fèvre Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos 94 Points

    Group 1/8, My 4/5 - Two bottles of the same wine showed up and while I rated them the same with very similar notes, the group somehow had them worlds apart... Pale white color. Nice seashell, earth, mineral and iodine on the nose. Big round structured complex mineral palate with good complexity and a slight floral note. Long structured (tannic?) finish.

    Gropu #9, My #8 - Pale white yellow color. Big rich fruit and mineral and acidity on the nose. Big bright round slightly sour white fruit with a hint of iodine. Long structured finish - could continue to improve with time?

  • 1997 Arrowood Late Harvest Riesling 89 Points

    Deep caramel color. Sticky caramel orange nose. Sweet brown sugar on the palate with some peach and molasses, but simple.

    Bright yellow white color. Pale nose of bright white fruit. A thick wine with a note of botrytis.
