Porzana, Mpls
Tasted Wednesday, August 21, 2024 by rocknroller with 102 views
This was a small goup with six of us attending (DM, BB, JG, DD, KB, ML). Theme was WTDS. Porzana always kills and we had some fine wines to hook up with the many difficult menu choices. It was a stunningly beautiful night on the patio to boot.

2007 Gosset Champagne Célebris 93 Points
France, Champagne
Light gold color. Drank a glass over an hour. Dulce de leche, light to moderately oxidative, baked apple, patisserie cream, Tart Tatin, dried apricots, plenty of dry extract on the finish. There's a lot of minerality that adds to this. Complex, long and underrated in general. 93+ to 94pts.

2014 Paul Pernot et ses Fils Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru Clos des Folatières 94 Points
France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru
Light gold plus color. Drank a glass over 90 minutes. What a great bottle, vibrant and exciting. Gorgeous, confited lemon, hi toned tangerine, lovely, a little savory, rich and layered, swampy earth and pulpy lemon, pear, full bodied and long with a touch of cream and toasted oak. Second go round with this one, and absolutely as good as the first time.

France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Corton-Charlemagne Grand Cru
Light gold color. Drank a glass plus over 90 minutes. wow, this is singing; citrus, lemon, Meyer lemon, dry stones, verbena florals, lemon panna cotta nose. The palate is really stony, lemon pana cotta, lemon peel, crisp, great cut, Mandarin orange, parafin, spice, laser-like and long. Fantastic. Great flight with the '14 Pernot Folatieres.

2004 Lisini Brunello di Montalcino 92 Points
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Dark red color. PNP, drank a glass over 90 minutes. There's a mix of dark fruits and charcoal, wood, black cherry on the nose. The palate has black cherry, lacquer, dried herbs, cassis, good tension and dark fruits, fairly well delineated at this point.

2013 Fuligni Brunello di Montalcino 91 Points
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
Very dark red color. Two hour decant with a 12.5hrs slow-O after. Drank a glass over 90 minutes. Anise, pepper, spicy and some bold black fruit on the nose; dry, firm tannins, bold dark fruit, long but a bit more aggressive with the very stong spice and anise notes. This was much more youthful despite a healthy decant.
