Introduction

My core Minneapolis Cru Crew had a fantastic dinner last night. Four wine loving friends, great conversation, some beautiful bottles, and the added (and relatively rare) pleasure of our spouses joining us.

  • 1988 Domaine Dujac Clos de la Roche

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Clos de la Roche Grand Cru

    A beautiful magnum (sadly my last) of a wine that I've always loved. For my tastes, Dujac nailed it with this vintage of CdR.

  • 2009 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée-Conti

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée-Conti Grand Cru

    I was the outlier of our group, but this perfect provenance bottle didn't move me. My reaction was similar to fcxj's note and comments of a few others on CT. Burnt stem and green predominated, and for me there wasn't a lot of offsetting pleasure.

  • 1959 Château Latour Grand Vin

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    A perfect bottle of 1959 Latour. This was breathtaking in it's beauty and pleasure. From a case bought by the current owner at the legendary Henry Singleton auction in 2000, thus of outstanding provenance.

  • 2000 Château Latour Grand Vin

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Pauillac

    Served alongside the perfect 1959 and more than held its own. An excellent wine that's in its very early days.

    France, Bordeaux, Sauternais, Sauternes

    Drinking old vintages of wine frequently involves combinations of anticipation, challenge, heartbreak and euphoria. Well, the wine gods were smiling tonight as this was a truly awe-inspiring bottle. Rebottled at the chateau in 1991 and my last bottle. An absolute joy.
