Introduction

Second trip to deepest N London. Lovely spot - food is very well done with little fuss.

  • 2008 Dom Pérignon Champagne

    France, Champagne

    A bit of apprehension here given recent experiences. On the nose - nothing butyric here, and the palate similarly has no funk, nothing disjointed angles. There’s a real intensity there, well balanced, the acid is standing tall with a lovely kind of candied lemon character. As it got some air and got warmer became even lovelier. Just lovely stuff - not sure if it’s a batch thing or a time thing or what but…any hesitation I had about this wine has vanished.

  • 2005 Nicolas Joly Clos de la Coulée de Serrant

    France, Loire Valley, Anjou-Saumur, Savennières-Coulée de Serrant

    Deep yellow. Oily mouthfeel with just a hint of lambswool. 15% ABV and you feel it, but it's all in balance.

  • 2008 Ridge Monte Bello

    USA, California, Santa Cruz Mountains

    Woof. Just so lovely and silky in the mouth, a hint of menthol and this gorgeous acid that keeps everything in balance. Still a pup, and my gosh I should slow down drinking these, but so light on its feet and well, gorgeous. At least one fellow diner was converted to Monte Bello after drinking this.

  • 2002 Château Léoville Poyferré

    France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Julien

    Purple / garnet colour. Just a whiff of animale on the nose - some discussion about the right kind vs the wrong kind of Brett. The table agreed that this was the right kind. Lovely balance and persistence - just a hint of trying tannin on the end.
