  • NV Hugues Godmé Champagne Premier Cru Brut Réserve 90 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

    Mid gold to deep straw. Savoury aromas of marmite, brioche, crushed almonds, riper citrus and squashed raspberry. A lively entry with a constant stream of bubbles and a vivid acid spike leads to a dry mid-palate adorned in savoury elements. A well-structured wine with a nutty (twiglets!), creamy texture and a good length on the finish.
    A blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier - Disgorged in January 2021.

  • 2009 Zind-Humbrecht Riesling Clos Häuserer 84 Points

    France, Alsace

    Deep gold with evolved notes of barley sugar, honeyed peach halves towards peach melba and wood smoke. The off-dry palate has some mineral components, but the fruit is drying out, and it is showing a lot of age with creamed honey and spun sugar overriding much else.

    Light lemon in colour; the nose is glowing with lime flowers, minerals, white peach and a just-ripe lemon. A crisp, fresh palate that is focused and direct with aromatic white flowers, alpine herbs, citrus and crushed stones, all underpinned by a piercing but glassy acidity - excellent balance and effortlessly long.

  • 2017 Domaine du Pélican Chardonnay Arbois 90 Points

    France, Jura, Arbois

    A light lemon hue with aromas of white peach, mineral and lemon. A fresh steely acidity that sits upright in the glass, mineral-edged with a focussed and direct stride. Zesty with good intensity, this isn't that deep or concentrated, but it is tight and delicate with a smoky, mineral close as it tapers off to a medium finish with an underlying elegance.
