An Evening on the Patio

Introduction

This was a lovely light with a bit of a strong breeze that gradually faded away leaving us pleased with the decision to make our reservation on the patio. Four of us gathered midweek for a fun tasting at the always fantastic Martina (DM, LI, ML, KB). Great wines to enjoy on a beautiful evening! Thanks gentlemen.

  • 2011 Taittinger Champagne Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut 94 Points

    France, Champagne

    Light gold color. Drank a glass plus over an hour. Pain grille, yeasty, marzipan, cedarbox, pear, melon and fresh air on the nose. The palate is full bodied, toasty, marzipan, cedar, pear, lemon, lemon peel, and limestone. Deep and layered though it came off somewhat primary.

  • 2014 Domaine Billaud-Simon Chablis 1er Cru Montée de Tonnerre 93 Points

    France, Burgundy, Chablis, Chablis 1er Cru

    Light gold color. Drank a glass plus over an hour. Nicely steely with slate minerality, lemon, subtle melon, sultry with dried white flowers on the nose. The palate is mineral driven, near full bodied with that same steely feel, bright lemon, fresh still, slate finish. Show a little more depth now than when it was younger.

  • 2016 Château de Beaucastel Châteauneuf-du-Pape Blanc 93 Points

    France, Rhône, Southern Rhône, Châteauneuf-du-Pape

    Light gold plus color. Drank a glass plus over hour. 80% Rousanne and 20% mix other allowed grapes.Diesel, slgihtly burnished on the nose with poached pear, peach, and golden apple. The palate is full bodies, round and fairly rich with golden fruits, pear, fusil, mineral notes and a rather viscous mouthfeel. Had this last about 18 months ago. Still very good, but I feel this is on a slow decline from where this started several years ago.

  • 2014 Louis Jadot Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru Clos St. Jacques Domaine Louis Jadot 92 Points

    France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin 1er Cru

    Dark red color. More or less PNP, drank a glass plus over 45 minutes. Savory nose, with mulch and dried earth, dried leave, wistful high toned tobacco leaf, and cherry. The palate is crunchy, with dark berries and deep red cherry fruit, rich and layered, nearly full bodied, with an earthy palate and a dense minerally laden finish. Not the most suave wine now, but this still have some upside. 92+(+?)pts.
