    Glass: Zalto/Sophienwald Bordeaux
    From Magnum. Popped and poured. We gave it not enough time unfortunately. A bit sweet and not as complex and electrifying as I remembered. Without the other great Champagnes this evening, I would have rated it higher, but in comparison today solid 93-94. Very good start into a fantastic evening!

  • 2009 Weingut Keller Riesling G-Max 96 Points

    Glass: Zalto/Sophienwald Bordeaux
    Popped and poured, which was a clear mistake. Clear, youthful pale golden color. At first, the nose was beautiful, and quite complex. After half an hour it completely unfolded and was amazing: Lemon zests, yuzu, wet stones, some nice stone fruit.
    On the palate beautiful clear, ripe and sweet fruit, medium+ ripe acidity, fine zesty bitter notes. The wine unfolds in the glas with every minute and more and more yuzu and finest Amalfi citrus notes emerged. This is still young and I will wait for my next bottle at least 5 years. At the beginning 95-96, last sips after about an hours certainly 96-97, so for me 96+. It can really become the best dry Riesling of 2009 vintage with some more time.

    Popped and poured. Clear, glowing pale golden color. Fine, beautiful reductive nose with some very clean fruit.
    On the palate with a beautiful high, ripe acidity. Very dense and with a nice tension and energy. Very fine oak and reduction in almost perfection, cool taste and quite long. Still potential. 93+

    Popped and poured. Amazing youthful pale golden color. Wonderful developed fine and elegant nose with beautiful clear fruit and finest oak.
    On the palate so fresh, young and complex! Very deep, creamy, but never broad or fat. Just right! Wonderful power paired with lovely clean fruit and fine bitter notes. Complex and very long. 95-96

    Popped and poured. Based on Aquacongas's notes I had very high hopes. But sometimes, hopes can't be fulfilled immediately :)
    This is certainly an amazing Champagne, but this evening I would have always preferred the Krug 164eme or the 2002 DomPi P2.
    The nose is not yet fully developed and quite tight and muted. On the palate you can feel the great precision, tension, energy and pressure. The mousseux is incredible fine. But it is not yet fully developed. This is for sure a sleeping Giant. In 5-10+ years that might reach 100 points. But this night it did not make much fun to me. Hence the 95++ plus neutral rating.

    Popped and poured. Clear, medium ruby-garnet color. Wonderful, intense and ever changing nose with finest fruit, floral notes, orange zests, herbs and fine underbrush. Wonderful!
    On the palate extremely fine and elegant. Amazing tannin. You don't realize it is there, but it coats your mouth like silk. Juicy, high, ripe and perfectly integrated acidity. Beautiful balance and harmony. Continuously changes in the glass. Long, lingering finish. This bottle is still very young and has potential fur further development of at least another decade. Wonderful wine that demands full attention. 97+ Thank you Daniel!

  • 2012 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée St. Vivant 94 Points

    Popped and poured. What an amazing opportunity to taste two vintages of RSV side by side from perfect, pristine bottles.
    To everyone who convinces themselves that DRC has changed their wine-making style and that you can drink it young now: Yes, you can. But you miss all the fun!
    The 2012 has a medium-deep ruby garnet color. The nose is very compact, oak not yet fully integrated and with some green harsh and herbaceous notes. All is there, its just not yet unfolded.
    Same on the palate. Wonderful grip and texture, but the tannin is still not as silky and integrated. It is for sure fine and elegant, but at the moment also still very compact and tight. It will for sure be an amazing wine, but in maybe 10+ years. At the moment 94++. Thank you Sascha for this brilliant comparison!

    Popped and poured from a pristine bottle in very good condition. Clear deep garnet-tawny.
    Unfortunately we did not gave this wine enough time. We should have decanted it. The mushroom and underbrush notes vanished with air and revealed a Pinot that aged very gracefully.
    The acidity is still perfectly integrated and lively. With time it developed nice, sweet fruit notes. Elegant and find and the length is also very long. Amazing experience Olli! I guess with more wine in the glass and more time, I would have rated it even higher. 92-93

    Popped and poured. Clear, deep ruby color with garnet reflexes. Fine, complex Bordeaux nose, very fresh, lots of fine fruit.
    On the palate still very tight and dense, not yet fully developed. Beautiful fruit, some barn notes, very high and not fully polished tannin. Good length. Needs probably another decade? Certainly good, but this evening not shining. 92-93

    From Magnum. Popped and poured. Clear, deep ruby color. Beautiful fine, deep, elegant and complex Bordeaux nose with clear fruit and lovely graphite notes.
    On the palate the complete opposite of the 98 Mouton: Wonderful elegance, balance and harmony! Fine tanning, beautiful grip, lovely beginning tertiary notes but still mixed with clear, fine red fruit and spices. Very long and elegant finish. For me slowly starting its drinking window, but it will stay there or even evolve for decades. Beautiful! 95-96

    Popped and poured. Clear, pale golden color. Nice, a bit dirty nose with fine reduction and some smokiness. On the palate really fine and elegant, reduction, high acidity, juicy, fine sweet fruit. Good length. Still painfully young. Will certainly be better in a couple of years. 92++

    Popped and poured. I was scared to open it, thought it was a waste. I was soo wrong :)
    Clear, pale ruby color. Wonderful open, expressive and complex nose! Fines fruit, orange zests, fine herbs and beautiful floral notes. Beautiful!
    On the palate also quite open. Very elegant and fine, juicy and lively with great elegance and balance. Wonderful texture and already with a long, rather complex finish. But I assume there will be even more in the future. Nice! 94++

    Popped and poured. I was soo happy that someone brought it to the tasting and I was so disappointed after drinking it! This is not yet ready for business! At the moment most serious Champagne in the 50-100 EUR range make more fun. It has all it takes, but at the moment it is tight and driven by green apples and apple must. Mousseux, acidity etc. is certainly beautiful, but it is simply too young. I will wait with my bottles for at least 5 years. 92++

    On the palate with lots of sweet fruit, fine mousseux and a lovely smokiness. Wonderful depth and density, paired with great tension and energy. Still very youthful and fresh. Very long and lingering finish. For me the best Champagne of the evening. 96-97

    Decanted for about 15-30 minutes. Clear, deep golden color. Complex and multi-layered nose with lots of exotic fruit, floral notes, honey, fine herbs.
    Definitively an improvement over my last bottle. Was it the time or the decant? Don't know, but know it has unfolded and is super complex, deep and clean. Not much botrytis, more dried fruit. Beautiful balance of sweetness and acidity. Very, very long and complex. Might be even more to come, hence 95+

  • 2003 Château d'Yquem 93 Points

    Popped and poured. Clear, deep golden color. Yquem is Yquem. Always very good, but this bottles was not great and compared to the Keller Beerenauslese rather sweet, cloying and clumsy.
    Lots of nail polish remover in the nose (Acetone) and lots of spicy botrytis. On the palate deep and dense, creamy and almost oily. Complex for sure. But also a bit chubby. Goes certainly well with Fois gras, but without food not very animating to drink. Nevertheless a very good Yquem. 93

    Popped and poured. We decided to trink it after the Yquem and the Keller BA, which was maybe a mistake. This bottle was in perfect condition. Pale golden color, super fresh. But it lacked the complexity, tension and energy I usually admire in the Scharzhof Spätlese. Or was it just that the Keller had way more? I don't know. Anyway, I find this particular bottle a bit too tame, almost boring, but of course on a high level. 90-91
