Deep yellow gold, remarkably fresh with acid in balance and a sweetness / richness but still primarily dry (10% alc), so spatlese fermented to off dry. Lemon, pith, fresh lemonade sweetness, textured. Perhaps past its very best but still holding in there quite nicely.
Australia, South Australia, Limestone Coast, Coonawarra
Ferrous, blood meal, tertiary character, soy. Still some fruit - red fruits and earth. Holding up but on the down slide...amazing given its humble origins and terrible wet vintage.
France, Bordeaux, Libournais, Saint-Émilion Grand Cru
Cherry and blackberry, tannin evident, pronounced but not drying, just more prominent than the fruit that is fading. Somewhat ferrous, softer fruit profile profile with earth and some tobacco. Looks left bank which is somewhat expected given the ~60% Cab Sav / Franc in the blend. Nice but a drink now wine.
Funky nose, fino sherry, definitely oxidative. Palate is something else entirely, sweet fruit, all ripe stone fruits, spice, rich but fresh. Not popular with all on the night, nose and palate incongruence was a challenge...but I love to see something so novel pop up.
