• 2022 Setiono Syrah Flaxman Naimanya Eden Valley

  Australia, South Australia, Barossa, Eden Valley

  a little sour smelling red and blackberry, touch of sweet spice, smidge of volatility and wood glue, dusty & earthy notes. Juicy, tangy, again slightly sour red and blackberry fruit, tannins offer a mid palate rasp; coarse sandpaper. Simple, fresh but with those encroaching VA and wood glue notes in the background.

• 2014 Juniper Estate Aquitaine Rouge

  Australia, Western Australia, South West Australia, Margaret River

  Medium minus intensity aromas of biscuit, slightly jammy blackcurrant, sweet spice, plums, touch of cream, a little on the ripe side for a Margaret River Bordeaux blend for me on the nose. Slight sour with mouth watering acidity on the palate, plenty of silky textured tannins persist long, the fruit pushed more into the red spectrum but that adjusted acidity. Alcohol warmth on the finish. Meh.

• 2014 Château Léoville Barton

  France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Saint-Julien

  From Coravin. Brambles, blackcurrant, earth, a little mint, slight alcohol prickle. Juicy, wild brambles, a little plum joins here, earth, slightly herbaceous notes, cedar, super persistent drying tannins, touch of blackcurrant. Young but nice.
