  • 2014 Roses de Jeanne / Cédric Bouchard Champagne Millésimé Blanc de Noirs Les Ursules 94 Points

    France, Champagne

This was a smidge shy at first, but it really revealed itself as it warmed up and got more air. There is so much freshness and balance right now as the tones of lemon peels, limes, apples, strawberries, red berries, rose petals, baking spices, custardy notes, biscuits, vanilla extract, and pears all work beautifully in harmony right now. The Medium bodied feel is pure silk and refinement with excellent depth and poise along with tart but integrated, high acidity that really persists. While this has a level of maturity to it, it still has plenty of runway for anyone who wants to keep aging it. The color is still very light yellow while the tones are still firmly in the primary qualities. This is a gorgeous bottle from Cedric Bouchard and a perfect demonstration of why he’s rated the way he is.

  • 2010 Dalla Valle Maya 95 Points

    USA, California, Napa Valley, Oakville

This was followed along from a craving pour and during the dinner at the restaurant. At first, this was a bit of a bruiser but with air it balanced out beautifully into seamless and plush tones of dark red cherries, black currants, licorice, cranberries, black raspberries, violets, some sweet tobacco, crushed rocks, fresh herbs, a touch of bell pepper, and some creamy vanilla notes. There is a load of depth here with this showing a lot of stature and poise. The Full bodied feel is deep and rounded with crisp, medium acidity and silky, medium tannins that still have a bit of bite to them. From the second you smell this, you know you’re dealing with a serious wine. There is so much going on as it is showing off some real lovely layers while having a balanced richness that comes from a top-notch Napa Cab. This has just gotten out of the gates and has a long way to go.

  • 2017 Veyder-Malberg Grüner Veltliner Liebedich 91 Points

    Austria, Niederösterreich, Wachau

This is showing beautifully from the get-go. The nose is balanced and aromatic with classic tones of white pepper, fresh herbs, snow peas, green apples, pears, stone fruits, lemon peels, white flowers, and some jasmine notes. There is excellent depth and class to the nose as this is really firing. The Medium bodied feel is lively and balanced with zippy, medium+ acidity that really makes your mouth water while leaning into a persistent finish. This was a restaurant purchase and it was right in the zone for what was needed. This could possibly age longer, but it is drinking so well right now!
