NV Christian Gosset Champagne Grand Cru Rosé A05 89 Points

Base 2020, with reserve wines from 2016 to 2019. 87% Pinot and 13% Chardonnay, 1g/l dosage and disgorged Apr 2024. Salmon pink in colour, a powerful and yeasty champagne that needs food.

Base 2020, with reserve wines from 2016-2019. 80% Pinot Noir, 20% Chardonnay. 1g/l dosage, disgorged April 2024. Similarly powerful as the rose but with coarser bubbles, palate had zingy citrus fruit with chalky acidity.

85% Pinot Noir, 15% Chardonnay. 3g/l dosage, disgorged June 2023. Another powerful expression of champagne, with ripe, round red fruit. Some vegetal notes on the finish.

100% Pinot Noir. 1g/l dosage, disgorged June 2023. This vineyard lies directly next to Philiponnat’s famous single vineyard ‘Le Léon’. Probably the most refined and elegant of the champagnes, so taut that it was almost BdB-like.

100% Chardonnay. Zero dosage, disgorged June 2023. Funny how I found this BdB to be my favourite from a predominantly Pinot maker. Powerful but tensile at the same time with attractive citrus fruit. Well-balanced, think the usage of oak barrels helped to round out the racy acidity well.

100% Pinot Noir. 2g/l dosage, disgorged May 2023. A little disjointed at first with powerful blackberry and cassis fruit, stylistically it reminded me of Emmanuel Brochet's rosé . Became more harmonious and elegant with air. Others didn't like this but was my second favourite of the flight.
