When Shin Terroir brought in a whole host of Gaspard, I immediately got on the phone to arrange a tasting. Didn’t show as well as the ones I had in France but the house style was clear - clean, pure fruit with salinity and minerality, in general they were much better with air and at a warmer temperature. Was thinking hard about whose style his wines remind me of, and I thought Vilmart (despite Vilmart obviously having a much higher dosage).

NV Gaspard Brochet Champagne Brut Nature Lion Tome III 94 Points
France, Champagne
2019 base, disgorged Jan 2022, 3g/l dosage. A superbly integrated and balanced champagne; round and broad but had a beautiful saline and acid streak. Immense concentration and depth. My favourite on the night.

NV Gaspard Brochet Champagne Brut Nature Ecureuil Tome I 89 Points
France, Champagne
2019 base, disgorged Jan 2022, no dosage. Was strangely natural so I struggled with this. A natty nose with VA and a distracting petroleum note. Palate was rather woolly with more tropical fruit.

NV Gaspard Brochet Champagne Brut Nature Assemblage PN + CH Tome III 94 Points
France, Champagne
Equal parts Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, 2020 base, disgorged Jan 2023, no dosage. A very seductive wine, rich but acid-driven, very pure citrus fruit that gained complexity in the glass. The wine with the most broad-based appeal, and my second favourite of the line-up.

NV Gaspard Brochet Champagne Mouton Tome I 92 Points
France, Champagne
Same specs as my last bottle in France, but unfortunately not as life-changing. Curiously sweet, candied nose that was both stemmy and medicinal, reminded me of a new-school Burgundy. Much better as it warmed up as the artificial candied notes dissipated, and the wine revealed more structure. Still a very unique wine that I would love to revisit.

2019 Ruppert-Leroy Pinot Noir Champagne Brut Nature Les Cognaux 90 Points
France, Champagne
Disgorged Oct 2021. Kindly brought by TK (see note below) to do a comparison, a richer style with more overt natural notes than the Gaspards that came before. Stylistically the oxidative and tropical notes were not within my wheelhouse, but I do respect the below taster's palate.
