Taking the opportunity to explore more of Greece.
A good display of Greece's prowess. Not to say a couple were bad, but it definitely was unique and new to me. The rest were pleasantly good, especially for their entry fee.
2023 Alpha Estate Malagouzia Xelones Vineyard 92 Points
Greece, Macedonia, Florina
Nose: White flowers, sweet floral aromas, bsumoba's edible white flowers, ripe and crisp nectarines and finely crushed minerals.
Palate: Very similar to the nose. The florals don’t translate completely but the ripe stone fruits does, not as crisp as it was on the nose though. Some watered down honey along with its bitter wax. A nice weight to it as well.
What an amazing gem that has so much to offer! The nose is crazy aromatic and inviting, with a good amount of depth on the palate as well. Very nice.

2023 Sigalas Assyrtiko Santorini 89 Points
Greece, Aegean, Cyclades, Santorini
Nose: Tall dried hay with blooming white flowers here and there. Soft nectarines and maybe some subtle lychee. Dried top earth and stone.
Palate: Similar to the nose but with the fruits and flowers dulled down a bit, making the earth and bitterness a bit more pronounced. As a result, this seems to make this a bit flat in a sense.

2017 Domaine Economou Assyrtiko Phi 89 Points
Greece, Crete, Sitia
Nose: Exactly like the tan rubber bands but if you took away the acridness. It's a bit dominating here, dampening the fruits unfortunately. I can’t distinguish any specific fruit but it’s yellow colored and deep, and it's sitting next to a pile of rubber bands.
Palate: Yup, more rubber bands. Put one in your mouth but again without that acridness. Crushed bitter minerals and also that subdued fruits from the nose.
Take score with a handful of salt, not familiar with this style/profile. I'm sure this is a style.. I think..

2021 Alpha Estate Xinomavro Skantzoxoiros 91 Points
Greece, Macedonia, Amyndaio
Nose: If red and blue berries can sweat out a pleasant odor. Subtle whip from a leather tassel, and some gentle earth.
Palate: Round flavors of red berries. It’s ripe but there’s no sweetness. Earth, and subtle leather finish off the palate.

2009 Tatsis Xinomavro Goumenissa 91 Points
Greece, Macedonia, Goumenissa
Nose: Dark red plums with the red flesh but still with a lift of freshness. A subtle rubber band note.
Palate: Dark red fruits, some aged plums but still with some freshness. Nice leather and wet river pebbles.
For the price, this is very pleasant. Could’ve easily mistaken this for a nicely aged Bordeaux. It doesn't "stink" as much as an aged Bordeaux neither, a bit more gentler.

2021 T-Oinos Mavrotragano Rare Clos Stegasta 94 Points
Greece, Aegean, Cyclades, Tinos
Nose: Dark red fruits with a red and purple flowers. Earth that has been slightly saturated with the same fruit.
Palate: Dark and ripe fruits minus any sweetness, almost rustic but in a very enjoyable way. Very classy yet brooding, such a juxtaposition. Bitter twigs, minerals and earth. A lingering graphite develops on the finish.
This was pretty awesome. It was like getting to see a country's royalty for the first time, especially when you're only familiar with your own. It was kinda toasty at the time of tasting, but would've loved to see how this would have been like at a cooler temp and with more air. 93-94

2004 Domaine Economou Antigone 94 Points
Greece, Crete, Sitia
Nose: A nose of old but still aromatic flowers, dark pink and almost browning white flowers. Gently aged dark red fruits. Tits so comforting, even new but also familiar at the same time.
Palate: Awesome aged fruits, dare I say better than aged bdx. There’s a comforting roundness to this, nice earthiness, and a caressing spice. The aged fruits, earth, spice, bitterness, minerals, are all so well balanced.
This was like meeting a long-time, old friend but for the first time. Beautiful. I would've loved to have had this at a bit more cooler temp.
