  • NV Guillaume Sergent Champagne Les Prés Dieu Extra Brut 91 Points

    France, Champagne

The nose is fresh with balanced tones of warm dough, toast, crushed rocks, brioche, red apples, roasted nuts, quince, nougat, biscuits, and a touch of carob powder. There is good depth with this really leaning into the autolytic side of things. The Medium bodied feel shows off the balance of the nose with racy, high acidity. This is excellent and especially for those that love more doughy notes in their champagne.

  • NV Savart Champagne Premier Cru l'Ouverture Brut 91 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

The nose is pungent and wide open with classic Savart tones of roasted nuts, spiced pears, baked apples, baker’s vanilla, quince, nectarines, yellow flowers, Mayer lemons, and some nougat notes. There is good depth with this showing off good balance along with it leaning into the oxidative style they’re known for. The Medium bodied feel is balanced and classic with racy, high acidity that has some nice cut to it. This was from a 2019 base and it seamless right now. If you are a fan of oxidative Champagne, then you’ll be a fan of this.

  • 2015 Laherte Frères Champagne Extra Brut Les Vignes d'Autrefois 92 Points

    France, Champagne

Well this is nice. A couple of weeks ago I did a vertical of this cuvée but the 15 wasn’t part of it. Now, that gets filled in here. The nose is very Meunier with there being a fair bit of baked apples, Bosc pears, quince, and nectarines before giving way to red fruits, red flowers, and berries along with autolytic tones of toast, warm pastries, and biscuits. There is excellent complexity here with all of the tones playing extremely well together. The Medium bodied feel shows off the balance of the nose with tart, yet integrated high acidity. This is showing beautifully right now with integrated acidity and excellent balance across the nose and palate. Can this improve with more age? Quite possibly. But, the acidity is integrated and the feel is textured to where I have a difficult time seeing any palatable reason for aging this much longer.

  • 2019 Domaine de Bichery Champagne La Source Extra Brut 90 Points

    France, Champagne

The nose is lively and vibrant with fresh tones of peaches, apples, pears, white fruits, white flowers, and some mineral notes that lay on top of a autolytic base with tones of vanilla extract, toast, biscuits, and brioche. There is excellent complexity, but this does seem to lack some depth as the tones seem to lay a bit on the surface. The Medium bodied feel shows off the freshness of the nose with crisp, high acidity that is nice and integrated. This is lovely and fresh with it showing more citrus-driven flavors rather than autolytics. If this showed more depth, I’d be utterly in love. As it is, it’s a really fun and vibrant champagne from a newer producer for me and I look forward to seeing what they do in the future.

  • 2015 Roger Pouillon et Fils Champagne Premier Cru Brut Les Blanchiens 92 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

The nose is aromatic, yet forward with delicious tones of nectarines, red apples, pears, Meyer lemons, nougat, yellow flowers, toasty notes, biscuits, and some vanilla extract. There is good balance and depth to the nose with an immediate quality to the tones. The Medium bodied feel is rounded and shows the immediacy of the nose with tart and mouthwatering, high acidity. I think the style is successful here due to the vintage as it doesn’t come off stripped or too steely from the 0 dosage.

  • 2016 Agrapart Champagne Grand Cru Minéral Blanc de Blancs Extra Brut 93 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

The nose is pristine and fragrant with deep tones of saline, lemon peels, apples, pears, mint leaves, acacia flowers, crushed rocks, jasmine, biscuits, toast, and a touch of baking spices. There is a real poise to the nose that is really enjoyable while showing off excellent tension. The Medium bodied feel is fresh and poised with racy, high acidity that has some nice cut. The feel is deft and deep while also possessing the tension of the nose. This is really sexy right now and it’s giving a lot. This probably could benefit from a couple of more years, but it is super sexy right now.

  • 2018 Georges Laval Champagne Premier Cru Brut Nature Les Chênes 94 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

Oh wow. Even as part of a tasting, this is making me take notice. This is so deep and packed with tones of fresh ginger, peaches, pears, quince, red apples, flint, mint, chamomile, stone fruits, mineral notes, biscuits, warm pastries, and some doughy tones. The Medium bodied feel is beautifully balanced and refined with tart, high acidity that has some real bite. This is clearly young and likely benefited from being open for a bit before it was poured. There is so much to like right now and if this is to be opened, it will need air. This can and will develop over the next few years and I can definitely see room for growth.

  • 2013 Georges Laval Champagne Premier Cru Brut Nature Les Chênes 94 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Premier Cru

There are always benefits to attending a Perman Champagne tasting. Sometimes bottles like this that Craig has stored will appear and that’s exactly what happened here! The 18 was understand exuberant while this has pulled back into something more elegant with well balanced tones of red apples, pears, stone fruits, Meyer lemons, jasmine, shaved nuts, spring florals, biscuits, and some brioche notes. The Medium bodied feel is refined and silky with tart, high acidity that has integrated nicely. This is absolutely lovely right now. There is so much depth and poise across the nose and palate as it shows a great peek into what the 18 can become.

  • NV Waris-Larmandier Champagne Grand Cru L'Instant de Passions 90 Points

    France, Champagne, Champagne Grand Cru

The nose is lifted and elegant with balanced tones of orange peels, peaches, strawberries, red apples, rose petals, raspberries, quince, toast, warm dough, biscuits, and some vanilla bean notes. There is good complexity, but it does lack just a slight bit of depth that would add extra intrigue. The Medium bodied feel is fresh and balanced with racy, high acidity. There is some cut to the acidity, but it isn’t too much and really makes your mouth water. This also has the depth issue of the nose on the feel as well, but this is a fun Rose with a lot of freshness.
