The nose on this bottle is a bit faded and drying out with balsamico, leather, dark red cherries, dried raspberries, herbs, roses, and spice notes. The Medium/full bodied feel is also fading with drying, medium acidity and medium tannins. I would love to try something close to a representative bottle as it seemed like there were some good things going, but this bottle may have seen some extra warmth during the process over time.
The nose here is quite alive and fresh with distinct notes of bing cherries that lead into tones of dried raspberries, cranberries, dried herbs, wild flowers, violets, spice notes, leather, and a fair bit of savory tones. The Medium bodied feel is balanced and silky with tart, medium+ acidity and resolved tannins. This is just lovely. It was likely better years back, but this is still a real joy as it shows off great tones and savory qualities across the nose and palate.
This bottle is on fire right out of the gates with heady and perfumed tones of red cherries, raspberries, ripe red berries, rose petals, savory spice notes, thyme, and earth tones. There is excellent depth and layering that really drive me wild. The Medium/full bodied feel is deftly balanced and refined with crisp, medium+ acidity and resolved tannins. This is fully resolved and still showing off freshness. Simply put, this is a real joy to drink right now.
The nose is perfumed and savory with lovely tones of iodine, red cherries, raspberries, dried red plums, crushed berries, leather, violets, and a lot of potpourri. While there is a lot going on the nose, there is a bit of a drying quality to the fruit. The Medium/full bodied feel is refined and balanced, but a little dried out with slightly bitter, medium+ acidity and drying, medium+ tannins. This bottle is still lovely and enjoyable, but it’s on the downslope.
Italy, Tuscany, Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino
The nose is fresh and deep with well layered tones of savory herbs, sweet red cherries, raspberries, strawberries, crushed berries, morning dew, roses, and crushed rocks. This is just gorgeous and poised, yet it does feel like it is holding back a bit. The Full bodied feel is so refined and balanced with tart, medium+ acidity that has some bite and chewy, high tannins. The structure is extremely youthful and letting you know that this certainly will need time. If I had bottles of this, I’d probably start checking in on them in 2030 and I can see this getting to 30+ fairly easily.
Two times in the past few months isn’t such a bad thing! This is part of a tasting and still showing amazingly. This is a truly great Sassicaia and one that I hope to come across down the road when it’s mature
The nose is pungent and showing a robust quality to the tones of black cherries, raspberries, roasted herbs, mint, violets, savory notes, and some toast. There is very good depth and balance while it shows that it’s mature in how all of the tones play together. The Full bodied feel is well balanced and rounded with crisp, medium acidity and silky, medium tannins. This is right in its zone right now. This shows off well balanced black and dark red fruits with just the right bit of savory.
This was certainly drinkable, but it was coming off as on the clear downslope. The nose is fragrant with tones of fried raspberries, cranberries, dried red cherries, herbs, earth notes, and some spice notes. The Medium bodied feel is balanced, but lacking on the mid-palate with drying, medium+ acidity and medium tannins.
The nose is deep and refined with classy tones of mint, red cherries, cranberries, raspberries, roasted herbs, tobacco leaf, leather, roses, wild flowers, and cigar wrapper tones. The Full bodied feel is poised and deep with medium acidity and silky, medium+ tannins. This is what it’s all about when a wine of this quality hits maturity. Unlike many of the other wines on the evening, this was far from dried out and was really poised and elegant.
